FROM THE PASTOR

As we observe the FEAST OF EPIPHANY this weekend, that moment in which God revealed Himself to us through the wise men, I want to express my profound gratitude to the entire parish community for making the Christmas season such a powerful and holy manifestation of God's love for all of us at St. Patrick's. The music, the decorations, the liturgical celebrations and the large numbers of people permitted us to observe the Birth of Our Lord with a renewed sense of optimism and appreciation for the gift that each of us is to each other's lives. May the New Year be filled with that same hope and joy that was so obvious to us and may Mary, the Mother of the Church, intercede with her Divine Son and lead us closer to Him and to each other.

I want to invite all to join us this Monday evening, January 8th for our MONTHLY EVENING OF PRAYER. Because it is also the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we will gather as God's holy people to celebrate together our membership in His Body as we pray the Evening Prayer of His Church. Our Baptism unites all of us to Christ and to each other and affords us the grace to live in a relationship of love that is further strengthened by the sacraments of the Church, especially the Eucharist. We will conclude the Prayer Service with Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament as we ask God's continued blessings upon us as we begin this New Year in His service. The Prayer Service will begin at 7:30 PM in the Church.

After careful consultation with many people and much prayer, I have decided to move forward the parish's celebration of the SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION. Effective this year, the Sacrament of Confirmation will be offered to those who are in the sophomore year of high school and celebrated in the springtime of that year. Father Rafferty and I both believe that this will enhance our religious education program and allow the newly confirmed members of the Church an opportunity to become more actively involved in the parish. I am certainly aware that this new policy will initially present some challenges to all who are involved but we believe that this change will be of great benefit to all. The Most Reverend Walter J. Edyvean will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for our present 10th graders on Friday evening, June 1st at 7:30 PM.

Stewardship

"…the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the Gospel." (Ephesians 3:6)

Today we celebrate the fact that Christ came to all of us, not just the Hebrews. He made us all one body with Him. It is important that we remember that because of the gifts God has given us we all have different yet equally valuable roles to play in the Body of Christ. If one of us does not play his or her role the whole body suffers. How will you play your role this year?

New Federal Tax Guidelines

Due to recent changes in the federal tax laws for charitable contributions, beginning in 2007, parishioners who itemize deductions on Schedule A of their tax returns will no longer be able to deduct contributions to the parish unless they maintain a bank record or receive a written contribution statement from the parish. Cash contributions that are not in a parish envelope cannot be traced by the parish and will not be included in the year-end contribution statement.
Our parish will track contributions made using the parish envelope system, and will produce a written statement of contributions made during 2007. This information will include the name of the parish, name of parishioner, date of each individual contribution, and the dollar amount.
If you have any additional questions, please consult with your tax advisor.

Rest in Peace

Let us pray for those who have died, especially
Gloria Healy and Catherine Evangelista
May they and all the faithful departed rest in peace.

Thank you

A big thank you to all who helped decorate our church for the Christmas season. With your time and talent St. Patrick's was truly a beautiful place to welcome Christ's coming!

Safety for All

In an effort to make sure our building is a secure place for all during the celebration of Mass, parents please accompany your children when they need to use the rest room. In this way we will all be assured that our youngsters are safe at all times.
