FROM THE PASTOR
There will be a SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses this weekend for the CHURCH IN LATIN AMERICA. This annual collection has stood as a tangible expression of our solidarity within the Catholic Church across the hemisphere. The proceeds of the collection continue to provide opportunities to our brothers and sisters in Latin America who, while lacking financial resources, are rich in faith and love for our Lord. The proceeds from this collection provide financial assistance to over 475 pastoral ministries in 21 countries. The Church in Latin America faces tremendous challenges because of economic circumstances and so any assistance that you are able to offer will be greatly appreciated.
I want to offer my prayerful congratulations to our young people who received the SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION for the first time this past Saturday. I am most grateful to all who helped prepare them for this awesome moment in which they were able to experience Christ's forgiveness and peace.
We are in need of more ADULT ALTAR SERVERS to assist at the daily Mass and also at funerals. This is a wonderful ministry that can provide great comfort and encouragement to many parishioners as they witness the involvement of their neighbors at the Altar of God. We are blessed with the active involvement of adults in this ministry and hope to expand our numbers. We will provide the training and the formation necessary for this ministry. If you would be willing to serve the parish community in this wonderful manner, please call the Rectory.
There will be a meeting on this Monday evening, January 29th at 7:00 PM, for all who are interested in helping to refresh our PARISH WEBSITE. The St. Andrew's Evangelization Committee has been exploring ways in which to enhance our parish communications and is looking to expand our website capabilities. We realize that the parish community has many people who possess great internet and computer skills and we hope that you will help us as we attempt to enhance our web page. The meeting will be held in the downstairs hall.
Finally, as the Church observes a week in which we are encouraged to pray for Christian Unity, I want to remind you of what Pope Benedict has said: "Unity concerns the whole Church." By praying together, "Christians become more aware of their status as brothers."

Stewardship
"The word of the LORD came to me thus: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you. (Jeremiah 1:4-5)
Jeremiah declares that the Lord knew him before he was born and dedicated and appointed him to his role as prophet even before he drew breath. We, too, are known and sent by the Lord. What deeds of love and service are mine to perform?
Rest in Peace
Let us pray for those who have died, especially

Adult Confirmation
Every year, in each of the Archdiocese's five regions, the Regional Auxiliary Bishop offers the Sacrament of Confirmation for men and women who haven't been confirmed. Family moves, a lapse from active practice of the faith, or military service are only a few of the reasons that some were never confirmed during adolescence.
There are two occasions when adults are most likely to request Confirmation. Often during marriage preparation a prospective spouse expresses a desire to be confirmed. This is more easily accomplished when there is sufficient notice. Additionally, Church law requires that a Godparent be a Confirmed Catholic.
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 7:30pm by West Regional Auxiliary Bishop Walter Edyvean here at St. Patrick's. While Confirmation preparation usually occurs at one's home parish, candidates from throughout the West Region of the Archdiocese will be confirmed at this time.
If you, a spouse, a family member or fiancé are interested in receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit through the Sacrament of Confirmation please contact Father Kiely or Father Rafferty. We will help arrange a Confirmation Preparation Program to have you ready for April.
As a reminder, our own parish celebration of Confirmation will take place on Friday, June 1 at 7:30pm. As our High School students prepare themselves through course work and service projects please keep them in your prayers.
Adult Confirmation Program
St. Patrick Parish will be offering a program for Catholic adults who have received the Sacrament of Eucharist but who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Bishop will be conferring the Sacrament of Confirmation for adults on April 25th. For further information please contact Jean Lorrey at the rectory 508-653-1093 or Jean Ryan 781-455-8393.

Nursing Home Ministry
Many, many thanks to the parishioners who sent cards to the residents of Riverbend on Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas and to the parishioners who visited the residents at Christmas time. These kindnesses made their holidays joyous!
We are planning the following projects for Riverbend Nursing Home:
* Sending a card to a resident on Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, and Easter.
* Visiting a resident during the Easter Season
* Participating in a social hour at the nursing home with other parishioners. (Usually the social hour is from 2:00 - 3:00 on a weekday.)
If you would like to participate in one of these activities, please contact Jane Teepe at (508) 653-2098 or jteep@rcn.com
There will also be a sign-up sheet in the back of the church after the Masses on February 3 and 4.
Adult Altar Servers Needed
The primary role of an Altar Server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass, and to model liturgical prayer with grace and reverence. We are in need of Adult Altar Servers to serve daily Mass. There is an increased need as Lent approaches with two daily Masses being offered each morning. Please prayerfully consider participating in this rewarding ministry as your Lenten offering this year. Complete training will be provided; no experience necessary. Please call the Rectory at 508-653-1093 if you are willing to serve in this capacity.

CLASSIFIED NOTICE
The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Boston, a Corporation Sole, has prepared a Complaint for the Application of the Doctrine of Cy Pres to be filed with the Supreme Judicial Court of Suffolk County. The Complaint seeks to transfer restricted funds held by the Archdiocese on behalf of 58 closed parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Boston to the welcoming parish (the parish receiving the sacramental records) designated for the closed parish. The Complaint refers only to those restricted funds held in the name of the closed parish and identified as such by the closed parish. It does not reference any other assets of the closed parish. The Complaint deals solely with gifts given to the Promise for Tomorrow Campaign, restricted gifts given pursuant to a written instrument or given pursuant to an oral restriction. The purpose of the Complaint is to allow the welcoming parish to use the restricted funds for the same or a similar charitable purpose as was intended originally. For those parishes currently under canonical appeal and/or civil litigation, restricted funds under the Cy Pres process will not be forwarded to welcoming parishes unless and until any canonical appeal and/or civil litigation has been completed and then only if the parish involved in the appeal or litigation remains closed.
A copy of the Complaint and Exhibits can be viewed on the Archdiocese's website at www.rcab.org. Each parish also has a copy of the Complaint available.
Any questions you may have prior to the filing of this Complaint may be directed to the Archdiocese no later than February 27, 2007. Questions may be made in writing to 2121 Commonwealth Avenue, Brighton, MA 02135 Attn: Cy Pres or by calling 617-746-5758, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
