FROM THE PASTOR

Saturday, February 3rd was the FEAST OF ST. BLAISE and it is a tradition to bless throats on that day. Because the feast fell on a Saturday, many people were not able to participate in this sacred action. We will therefore have the BLESSING OF THROATS after all of the Masses on this weekend. We pray that, through the intercession of St. Blaise, God will protect all of us from all ailments of the throat and from every other evil.

Next Sunday, February 11th is WORLD DAY OF THE SICK and we will be celebrating the ANOINTING OF THE SICK after the 11:30 AM Mass. In the Letter of St. James, the question is asked: ”Is there anyone sick among you?” The response suggests that the sick should call for the priests of the Church who are to pray over them and anoint the sick with oil in the name of the Lord. This wonderful sacrament is not the “Last Rites” of the Church but rather a powerful instrument of God’s healing presence. If someone is seriously ill, about to undergo an operation, or is advanced in years, we strongly urge them to receive this sacrament. We offer a prayer of thanksgiving to the Lord for the gift of our brothers and sisters who are ill because they, in union with Christ, help provide by their sufferings for the needs of the Church and the world. I invite all to bear witness to God’s loving concern for the sick by joining us next Sunday to celebrate this wonderful sacrament. As our Holy Father Pope Benedict has said in his recent letter to the sick, “ May Mary, the Health of the Sick, intercede with her Divine Son and comfort those who are ill and sustain all who devote their lives to healing the physical and spiritual wounds of those who suffer.”

I would also like to invite all parishioners to join us next Monday evening, February 12th, for our MONTHLY EVENING OF PRAYER. We will be celebrating an early Valentine’s Day as we gather to thank God for the gift of Marriage. I invite all married couples to join us for a SPECIAL MASS OF THANKSGIVING AT 7:30 PM as we renew the promises that you made to each other on the day of your wedding. Your faithful witness to your marriage vows allows all of us to experience the presence of God as we see how you love each other. By your love, you make present God in our world for He is love. The stability that you provide for your families by your generous love for each other enriches all of society and we give thanks to God for the wonderful vocation that He has bestowed upon you and for your faithful response. May God bless you with happiness and may your love for each other bring you great joy and peace.

Stewardship

"Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts!" they cried one to the other. "All the earth is filled with his glory!" At the sound of that cry, the frame of the door shook and the house was filled with smoke. (Isaiah 6:3-4)

In today’s readings, both Isaiah and Peter hear the call of God and feel themselves unworthy. But, reassured by the Lord, both answer and follow. Do I hear the Lord asking, “Whom shall I send?”, Am I prepared to answer, “Here I am. Send me!”?

Blessing of Throats

The traditional blessing of throats will take place after all of the Masses this weekend.

Adult Confirmation

St. Patrick Parish will be offering a program for Catholic adults who have received the Sacrament of Eucharist but who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Bishop will be conferring the Sacrament of Confirmation for adults on April 25th. For further information please contact Jean Lorrey at the rectory 508-653-1093 or Jean Ryan 781-455-8393.

Adoration Ministry

St. Patrick Parish is blessed to have a perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel for more than 10 years. In order to have a constant vigil of prayer before The Blessed Sacrament we must make sure each hour is covered by a designated adorer. We are in urgent need of permanent adorers. You will come to cherish this one hour a week with Jesus. “Could you not sit one hour with me?” Call Anne Reilly at 508-655-8516 to sign up.

Nursing Home Ministry

If you would like to participate in one of the following projects for Riverbend in South Natick, there will be sign-up sheets in the back of the church after the Masses this weekend:
* Send cards to a resident on Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter.
* Visit a resident during the Easter season.
* Participate in a social hour at the nursing home with other parishioners. (Usually the social hour is from 2:00 – 3:00 on a weekday.)
You may also call Jane Teepe at (508) 653-2098 or email jteep@rcn.com.

World Marriage Day 2007
Renewal of Wedding Vows

Saint Patrick Parish invites you all to join us for our monthly Evening of Prayer on Monday, February 12th, at 7:30 PM in honor of World Marriage Day. Mass will be celebrated upstairs in the Church, and all the married couples present will have the opportunity to renew their wedding vows. A reception will be held downstairs after Mass. Please join us as we congratulate all the married couples in our parish and pray for God’s continued blessings upon them.

World Day of the Sick
Sunday, February 11th

The International World Day of the Sick is observed this year on Sunday, February 11th, the annual Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. The Sacrament of the Sick will be given to those who are elderly or seriously ill following the 11:30 Mass. The Anointing of the Sick is intended for the faithful who are in danger of death from sickness or old age. It is fitting to receive this sacrament just prior to a serious operation or for the elderly whose frailty has become more pronounced. It is our hope to offer this Sacrament on a monthly basis following one of the Sunday Masses.

St. Stephen Parish Mission

Jesuit Father Al Winshman will be preaching and leading a Triduum at St. Stephen Church, 279 Concord Street (Rte 126) in Framingham, February 13, 14 and 15 at 7:30 pm. The topic is “The Way, the Truth, and the Life” focusing on our Call to Discipleship with Jesus through Mary. (*The Rosary will be prayed each night beginning at 6:40 and Fr. Winshman is available to hear confessions before each liturgy.) For more information call 508-875-4788.
