FROM
THE PASTOR
There will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION
taken up at all of the Masses this weekend for our Holy Father’s
ministry as our universal Pastor. This collection, known as PETER’S
PENCE, supports Pope Benedict XVI as he carries out the
spiritual and charitable works of his office. Your generosity
allows the Pope to reach out to those who suffer as a result of
war, oppression, and natural disasters. By participating in this
special appeal, we join the Holy Father in proclaiming the love
of Christ throughout the world. Please give generously so that
we can continue to bring the love of Christ to those in the greatest
need.
Speaking of our Holy Father, I would like to share some excerpts
from Pope Benedict’s Lenten Message: “Dear Brothers
and Sisters, let us look at Christ pierced on the Cross. He is
the unsurpassing revelation of God’s love…On the Cross, it is
God Himself who begs the love of His creatures: He is thirsty
for the love of every one of us...The response the Lord ardently
desires of us is above all that we welcome His love and allow
ourselves to be drawn to Him. Accepting His love, however, is
not enough. We need to respond to such love and devote ourselves
to communicating it to others. Christ “draws me to Himself” in
order to unite Himself to me, so that I learn to love the brothers
with His own love.” The Pope goes on to say, “In the Lenten journey,
the memorial of our Baptism, we are exhorted to come out of ourselves
in order to open ourselves, in trustful abandonment, to the merciful
embrace of the Father.”
I want to offer a very special welcome to the three members of
our parish RCIA Program who will be joining Cardinal
O’Malley for the Rite of Election at the Cathedral of the Holy
Cross today. JORDAN BALCOM, MICHAEL TRICOLI, and EVAN
MC CLURE have expressed a desire to enter the Catholic
Church and we thank God for this wonderful action in their lives.
We offer our prayerful support to them as they enter their final
stage of their preparation to be received into the Church at Easter.
Elsewhere in the bulletin, there is information concerning the
upcoming BOSTON CATHOLIC MEN’S and WOMEN’S
CONFERENCES that will be held on March 17th and 18th
at the Convention Center in Boston. I hope as many as possible
will participate in this wonderful experience of God’s grace.
Buses will be available to transport all who are interested but
seating is limited so please reserve your spot now by calling
the rectory at 508-653-1093.

Stewardship
He brought us out of Egypt with his strong hand and
outstretched arm, with terrifying power, with signs and wonders;
and bringing us into this country, he gave us this land flowing
with milk and honey. Therefore, “I have now brought you the first
fruits of the products of the soil which you, O LORD, have given
me.” And having set them before the LORD, your God, you shall
bow down in his presence. (Deuteronomy 26:8-10)
Today’s first reading describes the offering of first fruits the
people of Israel were to present to the Lord in thanksgiving for
their deliverance from Egypt and the gift of the Promised Land.
Is my offering at today’s Mass an appropriate response to the
many blessings the Lord has given me?
Rest in Peace
