FROM
THE PASTOR
As we enter the SECOND WEEK OF LENT,
I want to encourage all of you to participate in the various Lenten
activities at St. Patrick’s but especially Daily Mass. The celebration
of Mass is the Source and the Summit of all that we do as the
people of God. As our late Holy Father, Pope John Paul II stated
in his encyclical, Ecclesia de Eucharistia, “The
Church draws her life from the Eucharist. This truth does not
simply express a daily experience of faith, but recapitulates
the heart of the mystery of the Church”. It is through this sacred
action that we are transported to that moment when Jesus Christ
offered Himself for the salvation of humankind. Our presence at
Mass permits us, through the prayer of the priest who acts in
the person of Christ, to unite ourselves to this most perfect
gift of God’s own Son as the victim for our sins. The Pope goes
on to state that: “When the Church celebrates the Eucharist, the
memorial of her Lord’s death and resurrection, this central event
of salvation becomes really present and “the work of our redemption
is carried out.” This sacrifice is so decisive for the salvation
of the human race that Jesus Christ offered it and returned to
the Father only after he had left us a means of sharing in it
as if we had been present there. Each member of the faithful can
thus take part in it and inexhaustibly gain its fruits.” Mass
is celebrated during Lent on Monday through Saturday at 8:00 AM
as well as Monday through Friday at 6:30 AM. There is also an
opportunity to pray the Stations of the Cross every Wednesday
evening at 6:45 PM followed by the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
at 7:30 PM. I have been encouraged by the large number
of people attending Mass during the week and I hope that this
practice will continue to be a part of your daily spiritual exercises.
I also want to encourage you to avail yourself of
the Sacrament of Penance. No attempt of turning away from sin
and back to God can be successful simply through our own efforts.
Sin is an offense against God Himself and only God can forgive
sins. He does this through the Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation).
The mercy of God that we celebrate in this wonderful sacrament
allows us to “turn away from sin and to be faithful to the Gospel.’
Genuine conversion, which is the goal of all of our Lenten practices,
cannot be achieved without the forgiveness of sins in the Sacrament
of Penance. We offer this sacrament every Friday evening
at 6:30 PM, Saturdays from 3:00-4:00 PM and 7:30-8:00 PM, and
Mondays after the 8:00 AM Mass.

Volunteers are needed to help with the preparations
for our upcoming Parish Lenten Mission that will be held over
three consecutive evenings, March 26-28. We will need help with
refreshments, telephone calls, and other duties that will help
support this prayerful event. Sign up sheets will be available
next weekend after Mass, or you may call the Parish Office at
508-653-1093 to volunteer. Thank you for your help.
Nursing Home Ministry
The colorful pile of pink and red envelopes that arrived around
February 14 at Riverbend Nursing Home looked quite festive! The
residents appreciated the Valentine's greetings. They thank you
very much for your kindness.
To the parishioners who volunteered to send St. Patrick's Day
greetings to the Riverbend residents, the feast is "right
around the corner." Thank you in advance for continuing this
ministry.
If you have any questions, please contact Jane Teepe at (508)

CYO BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
St. Patrick's CYO basketball program is proud to
have one of its teams qualify for the Eastern Massachusetts CYO
Tournament. Congratulations to coach Rich Bowers and the players
on the 7/8th grade team! The team finished with a regular season
record of 12 and 5. Their first round game was played this Saturday,
March 3.
CYO BASKETBALL THANK YOU
With the regular season coming to an end, I would
like to thank the volunteer coaches, parents and athletes who
helped make CYO basketball possible this year. I would especially
like to thank coach Tom Cobb for stepping in mid-season. Each
year, the CYO basketball program grows and becomes more successful
because of the support of the members of this parish. We look
forward to another great season starting in the fall.

Music Ministry
The Music Ministry would like to extend an invitation
to all parishioners to participate in the Adult Choir Program
during Lent and the Easter Season. Instead of giving something
up for Lent, why not sacrifice a few hours out of your week to
help strengthen your Parish’s Music Program? The giving of one’s
time would be a great Lenten Offering! Your presence will enable
us to enrich a great tradition of song in the celebration of our
most sacred time of the year. The Adult Choir rehearses on Tuesday
Evenings at 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the Joseph Center and at 11:00
in the Upper Church before the 11:30 Mass on Sunday mornings.
