FROM THE PASTOR

There will be SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses this weekend to assist the LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR in their mission of charity. Please be as generous as possible.

The first phase toward reconfiguration of the Archdiocese has ended. Archbishop Sean P. O'Malley, OFM Cap., extends his gratitude for all the time, effort, and emotion expended in this initial phase. As you know, Archbishop Sean directed that every cluster of parishes gather with representatives from each parish to assist him in determining the best use of our resources and personnel for the future mission of the Archdiocese of Boston. Each cluster was asked to recommend to the Archbishop which parish, and also which two or more parishes, could close if he felt it was necessary. This was an invitation and opportunity for the faithful of the Archdiocese to participate actively in a very difficult task. At this time, it is important to remember these are recommendations, not final decisions. No one found the process easy, but our cluster accepted the call of the Archbishop to help our Church. The committee members deserve our respect and appreciation for the work they did. Our cluster recommendations are the following:

The position of the group is that no parish in Natick should close; however, the answer to the Archbishop's questions are the following:
1. Should the Archbishop find it necessary to close one parish in our cluster, we recommended that Sacred Heart Parish be closed because of the smaller size of the physical plant. This recommendation was made reluctantly, and there was no clear consensus.
2. Should the Archbishop find it necessary to close more than one parish in our cluster, we cannot offer any recommendation because there was no clear consensus whether it should be St. Patrick or St. Linus. The group was very much divided.
Although the Archbishop asked for a recommendation concerning the possible closings of a second parish, the parish leaders involved in the process strongly believed the Natick faith community needs more than one parish.

The consultation process now continues. First our recommendations are sent to the Vicar, who forwards our recommendations along with his own recommendations to the Regional Bishop. The Bishop forwards all that material and his recommendations to the Central Committee. After reviewing all that material of our cluster and others, the committee will offer a recommendation to Archbishop Sean. After hearing from the Presbyteral Council, the Archbishop will announce his decisions. The whole process should take about two months. Please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us through his process and beyond.

SEAMLESS GARMENT REFLECTION
Promoting a Consistent Ethic of Life

"When so many people are hungry, when so many families suffer from destitution, every armaments race becomes an intolerable scandal. We are conscious of our duty to denounce it."
Pope Paul VI

OPERATION RICE BOWL

All three Scripture readings today emphasize hope. Hope constitutes the major driving force of life. There are millions of people around the world who have difficulty accessing the basic needs of life: food, water, clothing, shelter, education and employment. They hope for a better life for themselves and their children. Operation Rice Bowl provides hope and opportunities for those in difficult situations. This week: Fast from negative thinking and hopelessness. Pray for people from Burundi who are working to provide a better life for themselves and their families.

PEACE & JUSTICE MINISTRY

Peace & Justice will meet on Thursday, March 11, in the Lower Church hall @ 7p.m. The topic for discussion will be the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) which Congress expects to vote on in the month of March. There will be a 30-minute video on the World Trade Organization entitled "WTO: In Whose Hands?"
Our Sister Parish, San Jose Las Flores, has asked us to oppose the Free Trade Agreement as they feel it will affect them adversely. As farmers or small business owners, they will not be able to sell their products if they have to compete against multinational corporations. They tell us that they want commerce between countries but "commerce with just/fair conditions, conditions that will not affect the poor so negatively." This is a timely subject that we all need to learn about. Please join us on the 11th.
