Reception of Holy Communion
The words of Saint Cyril of Jerusalem teach us the sacred posture and disposition for
receiving Holy Communion. They were first written about 350-400 A.D. They remain today the hallmark standard for reception of Holy Communion in the hand.
"In approaching, therefore, do not come up with your wrists apart or with your fingers spread, but make of your left hand a throne for the right, since you are about to receive into it a King. And having hallowed your palm, receive the Body of Christ, saying over it Amen. ...Careful lest you lose anything of it... Tell me: if someone gave you some grains of gold, would you not hold them with all carefulness, lest you might lose something of them and thereby suffer a loss? Will you not, therefore, be much more careful in keeping watch over what is more precious than gold and gems, so that not a particle of it may escape you?" (Mystagogic)
Saint Augustine also speaks to the sacred privilege and responsibility we have in acknowledging this Sacred Communion in Jesus Christ, Whom we receive. His words remind us that the Eucharist is not something, but a dynamic relationship with Some-One. The One through Whom all things came into being. It is the Christ event that creates the community.
If you are the body and members of Christ, then it is your sacrament that is placed on the table of the Lord; it is your sacrament that you receive. To that which you are you respond "Amen" ("yes, it is true!") and by responding to it you assent to it. For you hear the words, "the Body of Christ" and respond "Amen." Be then a member of the Body of Christ that your Amen may be true.235(St. Augustine)
In the reception of Holy Communion the words of St. Paul take on profound meaning: "Yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me." (Gal.2: 20) At the moment of Holy Communion a
sacred silence, an awe, and reverence should imbue the community. This is no ordinary meal, no mere social gathering, and not business as usual; rather we touch the Divine, and are caught up in the Author of life and love, becoming members of His Mystical Body.
When the Incarnation was revealed to Zechariah, he was struck with silence, unable to speak. (Luke 1:20). This sacred silence has traditionally marked the sanctuary space of our churches and
our souls. This Lent gives us the opportunity to renew this silent posture in the sanctuary of the church.
If you are a New Parishioner, please introduce yourself to the priest after Mass or at the
Rectory. We want to know you and serve you. We welcome and invite you to become active members of our St. Patrick Parish Community

STEWARDSHIP
Today’s first reading is a powerful reminder that time is a gift of God for which we must be accountable. Six days to work, says the Scripture, and a seventh for the Lord. What share of my time do I devote to the Lord?
PRAYER and FASTING REFLECTION
For Fridays
"...each one may offer up to God in the joy of the Holy Spirit something over and above the measure appointed him: that is, let him deny his body in food, in drink, in sleep, in
superfluous talking and mirth, and withal long for the holy feast of Easter with the joy of holy desire (Rule ch. 49)."
"Each one has his own proper gift from God: one this, one that."
St. Benedict

We would like to thank Lorraine Horgan for kicking off our Parent Seminar Series with such a thoughtful and informative session on "Teaching Children Respect". All who attended (nearly 50 parents!) walked away with concrete strategies to help children learn to be respectful. As one
participant said, "I'm thinking differently about the importance of parents' role in setting ground rules for respect and the "maintenance" of it in child development." Thank you Lorraine for
sharing your wisdom. "Protecting God's Children", our next Parent Seminar, is scheduled for Sunday, April 27th. The session is designed to help parents teach their children basic skills that will help keep them safe from dangerous or sexually abusive situations.

PRAYING for PEACE, RELIEVING the SUFFERING
Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25:41
The last two decades in Iraq's history have brought war and international sanctions, all of which have caused extreme hardship to the people of Iraq.
Our Parish is responding to an urgent appeal from the American Friends Service Committee, to collect family-size kits of critically needed health items for the people of Iraq. Since last June, AFSC in cooperation with other aid agencies, has delivered three 40-ft. containers filled with health kits, school kits and blankets.
On the weekends of March 9 and March 16, the Peace & Justice Ministry will collect health items in the vestibule of the church. Please make up a complete kit (in a plastic bag) or bring as many of the following items that you choose.
4 bars soap
1 plastic bottle of shampoo (13 to 24 oz. size and place in a
plastic bag)
1 tube of toothpaste (8 oz. minimum)
4 adult-size toothbrushes (leave in packaging)
1 hairbrush
1 wide-tooth comb
1 finger-nail clipper
1 box of adhesive bandages (min. 40, assorted preferred)
If possible, donors are encouraged to include a $5.00 gift to help pay for shipping costs.
Continue to pray for peace in the world.
MARIAN MINISTRY

The Marian Ministry invites you to join us as we pray the mysteries of the Rosary on Monday, March 17th at 7:30 PM in the lower Church. All are welcome.
