FROM THE PASTOR

There will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all Masses this weekend for EASTER FLOWERS. As we have done in the past, we will decorate our sanctuary in memory of our deceased loved ones as a visible reminder of the new life that is theirs as a result of Easter. Please place your offering in the envelope, write the name of the deceased person on the outside of the envelope, and place it in the second collection. Thank you for your generosity.

As we begin this most holy of weeks, the Church commemorates the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord. Our celebration of the sacred mysteries of our faith allow us to be focused upon the victory of Christ over death and our participation in His glorious life that is given to us through our Baptism. The schedule of the events of HOLY WEEK AT ST. PATRICK'S is included in the bulletin and it is my hope that all parishioners will take part in these sacred and solemn ceremonies.

Today is PALM SUNDAY and we remember how Jesus was greeted as He entered the city of Jerusalem. Acclaimed as king by the crowd, palm branches were waved and the way made clear for His procession into the city in which He would make all things new by His impending death. As the Passion narrative is proclaimed during the Mass, we are reminded of how fleeting public approval can be and as we echo the sentiment, "Crucify Him," we realize how easily public opinion can be manipulated and the devastating effects of following the crowd.

On Tuesday morning,. Archbishop Sean O'Malley will preside at the MASS OF CHRISM in his Cathedral of the Holy Cross and will invite all of the ordained that are present to renew their vows of obedience and fidelity. Our new Archbishop will also bless the Sacred Oils that will be used throughout the Archdiocese for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, the Anointing of the Sick, and Holy Orders.

On HOLY THURSDAY, we begin the SACRED TRIDUUM by recalling the gift of the Eucharist that Jesus Christ has entrusted to His Church as the abiding Memorial of His Real Presence among us. During the Mass at 7:30 PM, Bishop Edyvean will wash the feet of twelve parishioners to recall the command of Christ to be of service to each other. We will take up at a Special Collection for the St. Vincent de Paul Society as a reminder of our need to attend to the poor. At the conclusion of the Mass, Christ, truly present in the Eucharist, will be taken in procession and placed in a Tabernacle away from the Altar. The Church will be stripped bare as we pray in union with the Lord on the night of His agony. The lower Church will remain open until mid-night so that we can all pray quietly. We will conclude the evening with Night Prayer at Midnight.

The services on GOOD FRIDAY are beautiful in their simplicity. We begin with Morning Prayer at 8:00 AM. The STATIONS OF THE CROSS will be prayed at Noon. The CELEBRATION OF THE LORD'S PASSION will take place at 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM. Both of these services will contain the Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion. A special collection will be taken up for the shrines of the Holy Land at both of these services.

The most important of all services take place on Saturday evening when the Church gathers in Vigil. During the Liturgy at 7:30 PM, we will bless the Easter fire and light the Paschal Candle from the new fire. The candle, symbol of Christ's triumph over death, is carried in procession through the darkened Church as the reminder that JESUS CHRIST IS THE LIGHT OF LIFE. The Church celebrates in Word and Sacrament the newness of life that is bestowed upon those who believe in Him. It will also be our privilege to welcome at this Mass our Candidates for full membership in the Church.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

"As we come to the Table, may we be filled to abundance with the Love and Grace of our Savior Jesus Christ". As a parish, we continue to pray for our 2nd grade students as they approach First Communion on May 1st and 2nd.

Thank You

To our Confirmation Candidates who served dinner at the Pine St Inn Saturday April 3, your service and generosity does not go unnoticed, "what you do to the least of these, you do also to me" (Mt. 25:40)

Summer opportunities/needs in the Religious Education Program

All students are invited to participate in the MAY CROWNING on May 9th during the 9:00am Mass. Help us to honor Mary, our Mother and the Queen of Heaven and Earth with songs, prayers and a special crown of flowers. To participate or to help with planning please contact Melisa at 508-907-6220

ATTENTION ALL VOLUNTEERS

ALL LECTORS, EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS AND ADULT ALTAR SERVERS
As many are aware all CCD Volunteers were required to complete the Child Abuse Prevention Program per directive of the Archdiocese and Conference of Bishops. This consisted of 2 videos and discussion. Those attending found the program very informative. WE ARE NOW REQUIRED to have ALL VOLUNTEERS attend a session of this program. We have scheduled three sessions:

Apr 14 - 9 to 11 AM  Apr 27 - 9 to 11 AM   May 27 - 7 to 9 PM

All sessions will be in the lower church hall. Please call Deacon Crump at the rectory (508 653-1093) to schedule attending one of these sessions. Interested parishioners may also attend, but please let us know when you will be attending. If one of these sessions is not convenient, please call Deacon Crump at the rectory and inform him of your availability and we will schedule a session in the near future. Again, all the volunteers must complete this program.

Hymnal Memorials

We are happy to announce that the Memorials are now in the front covers of our Gather Hymnal. Thank you for your patience and generosity. The donations we have received so far have paid for only a third of the initial cost. Once again we would like to invite you to purchase a Memorial for a deceased family member, friend or loved one, a gift to the church in your name, or a new addition to you family. Your request should be in an envelope containing the printed name of the memorial and a twenty-five dollar check made payable to St. Patrick Church.

What skills do I need to fill this need?
Consider our six week course: Tuesday evenings
April 13-May 18, 7-9:30pm
St Ann's Parish Hall, Wayland

Call 508-358-2985 to register.

OPERATION RICE BOWL

Rice Bowls will be collected at the Holy Thursday Mass. Please place your Rice Bowl in the basket at the entrance of the church. Or, your donation can be placed in a Rice Bowl envelope which can be found in the pews.

The poor and hungry of the world thank you for your help.

In today's readings we learn from the Suffering Servant and from Jesus that our greatest triumph lies more in who we are than in what we do, in how we respond to others than in how they treat us, and in our consistent attitude of prayer and forgiveness.
This week: Read the Operation Rice Bowl Home Calendar Guide and learn how your contributions to Operation Rice Bowl work to create and sustain communities in the United States. Pray for the men and women who benefit from the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry and programs like it. Give of your time, talent, and treasure to a local organization that seeks to alleviate poverty and hunger in your own community.

PERPETUAL ADORATION

Perpetual Adoration was started at our parish over eight years ago.
The majority of the adorers have been faithful and committed since the beginning but, unfortunately, for various reasons such as age, death, transfers, there is always a need for new adorers.
Are you someone who likes to stay up late? How about committing to one hour a week between Midnight and 6am. Or are you retired? Do you like to rest after lunch, relax, or watch television? How about doing one hour a week between 12 noon and 5pm.
When Jesus called His apostles from their work to follow Him, He knew they heard Him, not only with their ears, but within their hearts. They heard Him. They listened to Him. They followed Him. They loved Him.
Hear Him with your heart. Come closer to Him. Find One Hour in the week when you can share in the peace and quiet of his abiding love.
Are you listening? Will you follow? Will you call? Carole (508) 653-0371
