FROM THE PASTOR

This weekend begins the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL for the Archdiocese of Boston. As Catholics, we are called to provide for the needs of our neighbors and the entire Catholic family, especially in union with our Archbishop. One of the most important ways in which we can fulfill our responsibilities is through our generous response to this Appeal in order to support the many works of the Church. Our financial response is indicative of our commitment to support all of the good works that benefit the entire community. Our Church is a family made up of many diverse peoples with equally diverse needs, from adults who seek a deeper spiritual understanding, to young people who struggle with the challenges of an increasingly secular world and to seniors who are asking that we not forget their many years of service. The Annual Catholic Appeal is the primary funding source that provides for the critical programs and services that serve the people of our Archdiocese. The Appeal is to the Archdiocese what the Sunday Offertory is to our parish.

We are experiencing a very challenging period in our Archdiocese. However, together we are the Church. Our strength lies not in any one parish designation but in all of the people who are part of our faith community. What defines us is our love of God and how we care for each other. The Appeal allows us to demonstrate our compassionate response to the command of Christ. "Whatever you do the least, you do for Me." Every registered parishioner has already received a direct appeal from Archbishop Sean outlining the overwhelming needs that confront him as he shepherds this local church. Every parish has been given a target that will allow all of us to share in meeting these needs in an equitable manner. With that in mind and based upon our historical generosity, St. Patrick's Parish has been given a target of $88,000.00. I hope that you will concur that it is up to us to help meet the needs, not only of our fellow parishioners, but also for all of the members of our Catholic family at a time when many members of the family are experiencing difficulty.

As individuals and as Church we all have moments when our challenges seem great and yet we can make a difference. I invite you to use the prayer to our Mother of Perpetual Help as you discern your generous financial response to this critical Appeal: "Mary model of Christian love we know that we can not heal every ill or solve every problem but with God's grace, we intend to do what we can. May we be true witnesses to the world that love for one another really matters. May our daily actions proclaim how fully our lives are modeled after yours, Mother of Perpetual Help."

STEWARDSHIP

Paul and Barnabus encountered both violent rejection and joyful acceptance of the message they preached. We, too, may meet with mixed reactions when we use our gifts in the service of God. But, the Gospel assures us, the reward for those who follow faithfully is eternal life.

EVENING OF PRAYER

Please join us on Monday evening, May 10th, at 7:30 p.m. as we gather together in faith for our Monthly Evening of Prayer. In honor of our Blessed Mother Mary, we will pray the Living Rosary with Scripture and Song. Each bead of the rosary will be represented by a parishioner holding a candle. We need parishioners to help us form this Living Rosary; sign up sheets are in the rear of the Church after all Masses this weekend.

Please mark your calendar, invite your friends, and join us for this special prayerful experience. Refreshments will be served downstairs after the service.

SEAMLESS GARMENT REFLECTION

Promoting a Consistent Ethic of Life

"Social action is not the preserve of some special interest group. It is an imperative of faith. World hunger, destitution…are affairs of spirituality. The human spirit is at stake, not "just" the human body". "Following Christ in a Consumer Society"

ATTENTION ALL VOLUNTEERS

ALL LECTORS, EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS AND ADULT ALTAR SERVERS
As many are aware all CCD Volunteers were required to complete the Child Abuse Prevention Program per directive of the Archdiocese and Conference of Bishops. This consisted of 2 videos and discussion. Those attending found the program very informative. WE ARE NOW REQUIRED to have ALL VOLUNTEERS attend a session of this program. We have scheduled three sessions:

Apr 14 - 9 to 11 AM  Apr 27 - 9 to 11 AM   May 27 - 7 to 9 PM

All sessions will be in the lower church hall. Please call Deacon Crump at the rectory (508 653-1093) to schedule attending one of these sessions. Interested parishioners may also attend, but please let us know when you will be attending. If one of these sessions is not convenient, please call Deacon Crump at the rectory and inform him of your availability and we will schedule a session in the near future. Again, all the volunteers must complete this program.

BIRTHRIGHT CARNATIONS

The Mother's Day Carnation Project is the only fund raising event held by Birthright of Framingham. The Birthright Center is staffed entirely by volunteers who offer friendship and practical assistance to pregnant women and/or their family during a time of crisis. What skills do I need to fill this need?

St Ann's Parish Hall, Wayland

Call 508-358-2985 to register.

PERPETUAL ADORATION

Perpetual Adoration was started at our parish over eight years ago.
The majority of the adorers have been faithful and committed since the beginning but, unfortunately, for various reasons such as age, death, transfers, there is always a need for new adorers.
Are you someone who likes to stay up late? How about committing to one hour a week between Midnight and 6am. Or are you retired? Do you like to rest after lunch, relax, or watch television? How about doing one hour a week between 12 noon and 5pm.
When Jesus called His apostles from their work to follow Him, He knew they heard Him, not only with their ears, but within their hearts. They heard Him. They listened to Him. They followed Him. They loved Him.
Hear Him with your heart. Come closer to Him. Find One Hour in the week when you can share in the peace and quiet of his abiding love.
Are you listening? Will you follow? Will you call? Carole (508) 653-0371

COED SOFTBALL

Looking for Fun & Fellowship? Want to meet some fellow parishioners? Shake off Old Man Winter and join St. Pat's slow pitch team. All parishioners (male & female) age 18 or older are eligible. Please call Ron & Mary Whinnem at 508-655-1463.

Please talk about this opportunity with your children. This is a great opportunity to serve God and the parish community. We hope to make this a banner year for Altar Servers.
Please call Kelly McPherson 508-655-4410 for further information.

Keep the Promise of Hunger and Health

Bread for the World - Write a letter to help fund hunger & Health

You are invited to come downstairs today following this Mass to participate in the annual Bread for the World Offering of Letters. This year the focus is on Keep the Promise on Hunger and Health.

Members of the Peace and Justice Ministry are present to assist you in writing letters to our congressional leaders. The letters will ask our representatives to reduce global hunger, poverty and disease by fully funding the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) and the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. The United States is already committed to these two programs but until they are fully funded by Congress, these promises remain empty.

Please consider giving 10 minutes of your time to this important endeavor.
