FROM THE PASTOR
This weekend begins the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL
for the Archdiocese of Boston. As Catholics, we are called
to provide for the needs of our neighbors and the entire Catholic
family, especially in union with our Archbishop. One of the most
important ways in which we can fulfill our responsibilities is
through our generous response to this Appeal in order to support
the many works of the Church. Our financial response is indicative
of our commitment to support all of the good works that benefit
the entire community. Our Church is a family made up of diverse
needs, from adults who seek a deeper spiritual understanding,
to young people who struggle with the challenges of an increasingly
secular world and to seniors who are asking that we not forget
their many years of service. The Annual Catholic Appeal is the
primary funding source that provides for the critical programs
and services that serve the people of our Archdiocese. The Appeal
is to the Archdiocese what the Sunday Offertory is to our parish.
We are experiencing a very challenging period in
our Archdiocese. However, together we are the Church. Our strength
lies not in any one parish designation but in all of the people
who are part of our faith community. What defines us is our love
for God and how we care for each other. The Appeal allows us to
demonstrate our compassionate response to the command of Christ,
“Whatever you do to the least, you do for Me.” Every registered
parishioner has already received a direct appeal from Cardinal
Sean outlining the overwhelming needs that confront him as he
shepherds this local church. Every parish has been given a target
that will allow us to share in meeting these needs in an equitable
manner. With that in mind and based upon our historical generosity,
St. Patrick’s Parish has been given a target of $ 90,000.00.
I hope that you will concur that it is up to us to help meet the
needs, not only of our fellow parishioners, but also for all of
the members of our Catholic family at a time when many members
of the family are experiencing difficulty.
As individuals and as Church we all have moments when
our challenges seem great and yet we can make a difference. I
invite you to use the prayer to our Mother of Perpetual Help as
you discern your generous financial response to this critical
Appeal: “Mary model of Christian love we know that we
can not heal every ill or solve every problem but with God’s grace,
we intend to do what we can. May we be true witnesses to the world
that love for one another really matters. May our daily actions
proclaim how fully our lives are modeled after yours, Mother of
Perpetual Help.”

EVENING OF PRAYER
Monday, May 14th, 2007
Please mark your calendars to join us for the next
monthly Evening of Prayer on Monday, May 14th, at 7:30 PM. We
will pray the STATIONS OF THE RESURRECTION which begin with Christ’s
rising from the dead and end with Pentecost. Let us walk this
pilgrimage of faith together as daughters and sons of the Light
and witnesses of the Risen Lord. We will meditate on the Resurrection
of Christ and discover the pathway of Light that Christ blazes
through our lives. All are welcome. Please bring a friend and
join us for refreshments following the service.
Fatima Day
The Xaverian Missionaries will hold their traditional
Fatima Day, on Sunday, May 13, at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine. The
main celebrant will be Fr. David J. Mullen, Pastor of St. Brendan
Parish in Bellingham. Gathering and sing-along: 6:30 p.m. Mass:
at 7:00 p.m. followed by Rosary and Candlelight procession. The
evening will conclude with refreshments served in the Shrine Hall.
Can & Bottle Drive
Saturday, June 2nd from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon
St. Patrick Parking Lot
This summer our parish will send 8 high school students
to the Steubenville East Conference, July 20-22. To help off-set
the cost they have coordinated a can and bottle drive. Please
come and support the youth of our parish. Don’t forget to tell
a friend!
First Communion Prayer
Dear Jesus,
Through bread and wine at the Last Supper, and by your holy word,
you gave the Eucharist to your church. You transformed common
food and drink into your Body and Blood, and offered us a share
in your life in ways we still cannot fully understand. Grant now
that these young people will always treasure the gift they have
in you. Give them the grace to be faithful to you and to remain
in communion with your church. As they receive their first Communion,
the Bread of Life and Cup of Salvation, make them always aware
of the hope they have for eternal life in you.
Amen.
Marriage Amendment
The Marriage Amendment will again be before the
Constitutional Convention of the Massachusetts Legislature, scheduled
for Wednesday, May 9, 2007. Society has a moral responsibility
for the good of future generations to commit strongly to the institution
of marriage as it has been recognized from time immemorial. Each
of us must exercise our rights as citizens, and urge our legislators
to vote to move the Marriage Amendment to the 2008 ballot and
allow every citizen’s voice to be heard. Contact your Senator
and Representative at 617-722-2000. For e-mail addresses go to
www.macathconf.org and
click on “Legislator’s e-mails”.
2007 ANNUAL CORI CHECK
In keeping with the Archdiocesan policy for conducting
background checks for all clergy, staff, and volunteers, all parish
volunteers (age 17 and older) must complete a CORI (criminal offender
record information) form that will be submitted to the Archdiocesan
Office of Volunteer Resources.
This is an annual process required of all parishes within the
Archdiocese of Boston, and we at Saint Patrick Parish have been
asked to conduct our annual CORI checks during the month of May.
The forms are being mailed to all volunteers during the week of
May 7th.
The Archdiocese requires that you return the completed form in
person as you will be asked to show your driver’s license or other
form of identification. In order to facilitate this process, members
of the Parish Staff and Parish Pastoral Council will be on hand
after all Masses the weekend of May 19-20th to collect the forms
and answer any questions.
Your cooperation is most appreciated in helping us comply with
these regulations. Thank you.
Rest in Peace
Let us pray for those who have died, especially
William Judge and Nicholas Souza
May they and all of
the faithful departed rest in peace.
Respect Life Ministry
Bake Sale for Camp Arrowhead
Many thanks to our parishioners who supported our
bake sale for Camp Arrowhead. The $1,045.70 raised is greatly
appreciated by the Natick Recreation Department.
Birthright Carnations
The Mother’s Day Carnation Project is the primary
fundraising event held by Birthright of Framingham. The Birthright
center is staffed entirely by volunteers who offer friendship,
emotional support and practical assistance to women in a crisis
pregnancy. Birthright does not charge for its services, but relies
on donations from generous supporters to continue helping pregnant
women in need. Your support next weekend (May
12/13) is deeply appreciated.
Respect Life Ministry Baby Shower
Our annual collection of new baby items will take
place on the weekend of May19/20. This will be the only weekend
that the baby baskets will be placed at the exits of the Church.
Items needed are diapers, blankets, wipes and newborn clothing.
Gifts are delivered to Pregnancy Help and then distributed to
needy families.
Rowen Memorial Golf Tournament
The Rowen Memorial Golf Tournament benefiting Blessed
John XXIII National Seminary is scheduled for Monday, May 21st,
at The Weston Golf Club. This premier charity event is held to
benefit the educational program for the seminarians. Tuition covers
only half the cost of educating a seminarian and the proceeds
from this tournament will help bridge the gap and keep the cost
of educating them affordable. The $200 player entry includes lunch
at the Club, 18 holes of golf with cart, and door prizes; followed
by a social hour and dinner for each golfer and a guest at the
seminary. To register, call Kate Folan at 781-899-5500 or visit:
www.blessedjohnxxiii.edu
to print out a registration form.
2007 Catholic Appeal Update
Giving in Faith, Giving with Love
This is Catholic Appeal Weekend here at St. Patrick’s
Parish. We, like all parishes throughout our Archdiocese, will
be showing a video message from Cardinal Seán at all masses
and asking every Catholic household to participate by making a
pledge. Please know that your participation counts and that all
gifts – of whatever amount – matter.
God calls each of us to share our gifts with others for the building
up of his kingdom. The Catholic Appeal is a once-a-year fundraiser
to benefit the many programs and services of our Archdiocese of
Boston. The Catholic Appeal is to our Archdiocese what the Offertory
is to our parish - so your participation and support are critical.
Please see the information packets in the pews to learn more and
to obtain a pledge form if you didn’t receive one last week.
Thank you in advance for joining with parishioners throughout
our Archdiocese’s 295 parishes to carry on the broader work of
our Church.
Prayer for Vocations
Loving and merciful God, you call us into being and
commission us to serve your people. We pray that our lives might
make a difference and that our service might give you praise.
Strengthen us, we pray, to be instruments of peace and justice
in our church and in our world. May we desire to ministry as priests,
sisters, brothers, deacons and lay ministers. We ask this in the
spirit of Jesus Christ. Amen.
