FROM THE PASTOR

I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the many parishioners who have participated in the PROMISE FOR TOMORROW CAMPAIGN. The Promise For Tomorrow Campaign is a $300 million initiative to fortify the future of our Church and it will have a positive impact on all of the church's ministries, including the parishes. This campaign is of critical importance to the life of the Church in Boston and by extension to St. Patrick's Parish. Your gift will be used solely for the purpose of supporting the mission of the Church in the areas of healthcare, education, social services, and ministerial formation. Twenty-five percent of all money collected will remain here at St. Patrick's for our own pastoral needs. Last weekend, I am happy to report that over $ 320,000.00 was pledged by our parishioners, bringing the total pledged to $675,000.00. This represents 42% of our parish goal and I want to thank you for your generous support of this effort. There is still time to become part of this historic effort for our Catholic Church. There are Pledge Cards available at the doors of the Church and at the Rectory. YOU CAN GIVE WITHOUT LOVING, BUT YOU CAN'T LOVE WITHOUT GIVING.

As we celebrate MOTHER'S DAY, let us all be mindful of the precious gift that mothers are to our lives and to the entire world. The countless sacrifices that mothers make each day for their children bear witness to the love that knows no bounds. Our words could never adequately convey the depth of gratitude that we should have for every mother who devotes her time and energy to raising children. As we celebrate Mass this Sunday, we will offer a special prayer of Thanksgiving for all mothers. Let us pray that God will grant His grace to every mother as they strive to fulfill their noble vocations and that He will reward those who have died with eternal rest in His Kingdom.

This weekend, representatives from the RESPECT LIFE COMMISSION will be selling carnations after all of the Masses. Your purchase of a carnation is an expression of solidarity with the pregnant women of our community and assists in providing for some of their needs. As we observe Mother's Day, we offer our prayers that the dignity of the human person wil be respected from the moment of conception until natural death. Please support our humble efforts to protect human life, especially the lives of the most vulnerable among us, the unborn.

I want to invite all parishioners to join us on this Monday evening, May 12th for our MONTHLY EVENING OF PRAYER. Since May is the month of Mary, we will be praying a LIVING ROSARY. The evening will consist of prayers, Scripture readings, and songs as we contemplate the LUMINOUS MYSTERIES in honor of the Mother of the Church. I hope that you will join us for this prayerful experience on Monday evening at 7:30 PM in the Church. There will be refreshments served in the Hall after the Prayer Service.

PEACE & JUSTICE MINISTRY
CELEBRATE MOTHER'S DAY…As it was intended
…to commemorate the ideal of peace in our world

In 1872, Julia War Howe was so horrified by the ravages of the Civil War that she worked to have a day set aside where mothers could grieve the loss of their sons and work together for a peaceful world.

This Mother's Day we ask you to remember its original intent. Honor the woman you love by donating your gift money in her name to a respected organization committed to relieving the suffering brought on by war.
