FROM THE PASTOR
There was an article in the Metro West News this past week concerning the St. Patrick's Cemetery and I think that it might be helpful for me to share a brief response. First of all, I would like to express my sincere apology to anyone who was hurt by the clean-up. It was never the intention of the Cemetery Commission to offend anyone but rather to make the St. Patrick's Cemetery more attractive and serene by removing the debris that had accumulated through the winter months. Somehow, in the zeal to accomplish that goal, objects from the graves were removed and as a result, some people were justifiably offended. To these people, I offer my apology. I would however also like to thank the numerous people who gave up a Saturday to work on this effort. I hope that we do not lose sight of the intent of the day and impute motives that are not legitimate. The parishioners who labored in the Cemetery were attempting to beautify this sacred resting-place of so many of our deceased loved ones. I believe that we owe them our gratitude for their willingness to spend their time and energy on a worthwhile project and I apologize to them for my lack of clarity with regard to the process to be followed. I want to assure everyone that, in the future, this breach will not be repeated. As we continue to prepare the Cemetery so that we can honor our deceased on Memorial Day, let us be mindful of our common desire to insure that St. Patrick's Cemetery will always be a fitting expression of our love for those who gave so much of themselves for us. May they rest in the peace of Christ.
I am happy to announce that EDWARD FINERTY and PATRICIA JACOBS have agreed to serve as the Co-Vice-Chairpersons of the PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL. I am grateful to both of these parishioners for their generosity and charity in assuming this important position. I would also like to express my gratitude to all of the members of the Pastoral Council for their service to this Parish family. The consultative role of the Pastoral Council is critical to my pastoral ministry as we attempt to discern together the needs of the parish and to chart a course for our future. Over the next months, the Council members will be assessing the current state of parish affairs in order to determine our future needs. I will continue to apprise the parish family of the status of this work and also to seek your valuable input on these matters.
I would like to thank all of the parishioners who have already made a Pledge for the PROMISE FOR TOMORROW CAPITAL CAMPAIGN. The needs of the Archdiocese of Boston are great and we are all responsible for addressing those needs. As we read about school and parish closings, we have to become more pro-active in our approach to future planning. The Promise for Tomorrow Campaign is a wonderful vehicle for the Church in Boston to prepare for the future and to guarantee that our pastoral mission will continue. So many of our brothers and sisters depend upon our generosity to make a better life and we must, as our Lord reminded us, look on their needs as our own. I hope that all of you will prayerfully consider making a generous pledge to this campaign so that the work of the Church, which is the work of Christ, will flourish.

A LETTER FROM FR. DONOHOE
April 28, 2003
Dear Children,
Thank you for your prayerful support. I received many nice letters from the St. Patrick Religious Education children. Thanks again for your kindness and thoughtfulness.
As you know the war is over and we are now helping the people of Iraq. We are fixing schools, and power plants, getting the water and sewer on, and protecting people from some bad bullies who want to frighten and harm others.
As for me, I have been celebrating Mass a lot lately. This past Sunday I had 5 Masses spread out over the city of An Nasyria, Iraq. I am not a soldier, but their priest. I try to help them and pray with them, and in peace time I try to help them help others. Last week we collected over ten boxes of food to give out at the local school. We also arranged for the painting and fixing up of one of the schools. We gave out toys at an orphanage a week earlier. I hope we can do more of these projects.
The birthplace of Abraham, the Biblical character, is a few miles away. I hope I can arrange a special visit to this shrine.
Most of us hope things will be better in Iraq and we will be home soon.
Kids, thanks again for your prayers. I hope to be home this summer.
Blessings & Peace,
Fr. Stephen Donohoe
