FROM THE PASTOR

I want to share with you that Fr. MARK RILEY has been experiencing significant health issues that have caused him to submit his resignation as Administrator of St. John's Parish in East Bridgewater. Fr. Riley will be recuperating for awhile here at St. Patrick's and I ask that you keep him in your prayers. I am delighted that Fr. Riley has chosen to spend some time here and we look forward to enjoying his smiling presence among us. I am grateful to you, the people of St. Patrick's, for making this parish a place where Fr. Riley would feel so much at home. During his convalescence, I know that your compassionate love will be the best medicine of all.

This Tuesday, May 25th, Archbishop Sean O'Malley will announce the plan of Reconfiguration for the Archdiocese of Boston. I realize that there will be a tremendous amount of emotion attached to whatever pastoral plan is produced but I hope that, with openness to the Holy Spirit, we will unite in prayerful support of our Archbishop in order to fulfill the mission of this local Church. This has been a lengthy process that has involved the consultation and cooperation of clergy and laity to a degree never before realized in this Archdiocese. The present challenge facing the Church in Boston is to recognize that the Catholic family is comprised of people and not buildings. As Church, we gather to celebrate together the mysteries of our faith and, although we treasure many memories within the various parochial settings, our focus is always Christ Who is present wherever two or three gather in His name. The process of reconfiguration should enable us to better serve Christ by strengthening our ability to serve the needs of others in an era of diminished resources. Let us pray during this time as we anticipate Pentecost that the Holy Spirit will increase within us the desire build up the community of the Church in union with our shepherd, Archbishop Sean so that we might love one another as Christ loves us.

I want to invite all parishioners to a special Mass at St. Patrick's Cemetery on next Monday, May 31st. We will observe Memorial Day by commending the souls of all of our departed loved ones at an outdoor Mass that will begin at 11:00 AM. I would encourage you bring a lawn chair, (especially if I am going to preach!!!!!), so that you might be comfortable. In the event of rain, we will celebrate Mass in St. Patrick's Church.

Also, on Saturday, June 5th, we will have a MASS OF COMPASSION during which we will offer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. I will provide more details in next week's bulletin.
