FROM THE PASTOR
I am happy to announce that we have selected a new Director of Religious Education. After an extensive search conducted by members of the Religious Education Commission, we have invited MELISSA MELNYK to join the Pastoral team as our new Director of the parish program. Melissa is a graduate of Concordia University in Montreal and has recently completed a Masters of Theology from Weston College in Cambridge. Melissa brings with her a wealth of experience in planning, development, and evaluation to her new position. She also has an extensive background as a Coordinator of Youth Ministry and has been very active in the promotion of stewardship as a way of life. I am certain that Melissa will be a tremendous blessing to this parish and I am especially grateful to the members of the Search Committee for their efforts in this endeavor. My thanks to Fr. MARK RILEY, DR. JOSEPH KEEFE, MICHELLE HYDE, GRACE KELEMANIK, and KITTY GEARY for identifying Melissa as the appropriate candidate. Melissa will begin her new role on July 1, 2003.
I have asked the members of the Parish Pastoral Council to prepare a working document concerning the present state of the parish. We have identified five areas of parish life and are in the process of collating information as to the current status of these components of parochial life. The five areas are Spiritual Life, Religious Education, Parish Activities, Parish Facilities, and Parish Finances. At the completion of this project, we will then begin to assess these various areas of concern in order to establish some concrete goals for our future. We will be eliciting input from parishioners as we determine how best to achieve these goals as we attempt to provide the best pastoral services possible.
I want to thank all of the parishioners of St. Patrick's who helped me to observe the 25th Anniversary of my ordination to the Priesthood. I am overwhelmed and deeply appreciative of your prayerful support and acts of kindness. I would be remiss if I allowed this celebration to obscure some other important milestones. I offer my prayerful best wishes and congratulations to Frs. STEPHEN DONOHOE, WILLIAM IBACH, and JOSEPH "TONY" PAQUET who celebrated their anniversaries on June 13th and to Fr. MARK RILEY who will observe his anniversary on June 16th. I am honored to be associated with these dedicated priests and know that you will join me in extending our gratitude to them for their faithful and generous service. May God, Who has begun this wonderful work in them, bring it to completion.
Finally, today we observe FATHER'S DAY and we remember all of those fathers who have sacrificed so much for the sake of their families. The blessing that these men are to the lives of their children can never be fully acknowledged in words. We pray that fathers will always be the best of teachers to their children by the example that they set and the lives that they lead. We offer today our prayers that God will reward them for their many acts of kindness to us and to those who have died, that He may grant them eternal rest in His Kingdom of peace.

A LETTER TO OUR PARISH FAMILY
June 1, 2003
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, In the recent weeks since I have learned that I have colon cancer, I have seen the Face of the Body of Christ and it is you! There are no words to express the gratitude and humility with which I have received your outpouring of love; your prayers, cards, phone calls and expressions of care. I have come to know the true meaning of "Christian community". You are all so dear to me.
I have successfully weathered the first phase of my treatment, namely the surgery which removed the tumor from my colon. The plan is that in several weeks I will begin a course of chemo therapy to shrink the tumor on my liver. After sufficient chemo and recovery from the first surgery, I will undergo a second major surgery to remove the tumor from my liver. This will be followed by additional chemo therapy to, hopefully, eradicate any remaining cancer left behind.
On many days this seems like too daunting a journey. And then I recall the clear and certain fact that through your efforts of prayer and love, I have been surrounded by God's angels and the recipient of His peace. I most humbly request that you continue to pray for me that I may have strength and grace to walk this path with faith and the willingness to suffer for others. Please know that you are in my prayers and that I love you.
Affectionately, your sister in Christ,
Denise Perreault
