FROM THE PASTOR

Next weekend, July 24th and 25th we will be delighted to welcome a missionary priest from the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith. The Propagation of the Faith is our Holy Father's world-wide mission education and fund raising society for the support of all of the Church's missions throughout the world. A priest from India will be speaking at all of the Masses next weekend and we will take up a SECOND COLLECTION for the missions. There are special envelopes in the pews this weekend and I ask that you use these to make a generous financial contribution to this vital work. The entire Church needs to be involved in the work of evangelization and our support of the missions is one way to ensure that the Gospel is continually proclaimed throughout the world. I am certain that you will respond to this appeal with your customary compassion.

The Gospel this week is a vivid reminder that all of us need to spend some quality time with the Lord and that this is a time to be treasured, not scorned. Many of us value the works of discipleship but we often fail to appreciate that the impetus behind the work comes from our union with Christ. A friend of mine once told me that she wanted her daughter to be a true disciple of Christ so she named her Martha Mary. I guess that she realized that real Christian discipleship requires both an active and contemplative component in order to be complete. Our society esteems people who are doers and as a consequence, we grow up thinking that we need to be constantly busy doing something. Even our truisms such as "idle hands are the devil's workshops" or "he who hesitates is lost" seem to underscore the necessity of always being busy. However, it is not the only task that counts but rather the motivation behind our actions that matter to the Lord. As we reflect upon the many blessings of the Lord, we are called always to be grateful. In his Letter to the Colossians, St. Paul wrote "let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns, and inspired songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And, whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." (Colossians 3,16-18) The time that we spend in contemplation, in listening to His words and reflecting upon His many gifts to us, allows us to draw strength from the knowledge that He is always with us. The ability to face an uncertain future with confidence comes from the knowledge that the One who has called us is Himself faithful and He will accomplish all that is needed. "Cast all of your cares upon Him because He cares for you." (! Peter 5,7).

PERPETUAL ADORATION

St. Patrick's Parish is so blessed to have Perpetual Adoration. We are also thankful to the adorers who faithfully commit to their hour. However, there are times when the committed adorer is unable to cover his/her hour. Vacation time is here and we would greatly appreciate anyone who is able to substitute during the summer months. On the bulletin board in the chapel vestibule is a list of adorers looking for a substitute.

If you would like to visit other adoration chapels while on vacation, www.therealpresence.org lists parishes with adoration by state throughout the US, the days and times of adoration and maps. Another helpful website for vacationers is www.masstimes.org.

Through these resources you can connect with Sunday Mass and adoration no matter where your summer plans take you!

Eucharistic Adoration

When Jesus called His apostles from their work to follow Him, He knew they heard Him, not only with their ears, but, within their hearts. They heard Him. They listened to Him. They followed Him. They loved Him.

Extra help is needed the next three months to cover hours when committed adorers are away. Some of the hours where a substitute is needed are:
Sunday 10-11pm (July 11, and July 18th)
Sunday 12 noon to 1pm (July, August, and September)
Sunday 3-4pm (July and August)
Tuesday 8-9am (July 6th)

Hear Him with your heart. Come closer to Him Are you able to fill in, at least, 1 or 2 times during the summer months? Are you listening? Will you follow? Will you call? Carole (508-653-0371) Also, check the substitute list on the bulletin board.

To our neighbors and friends at Saint James
And Sacred Heart Parishes

The recent announcement of the closing of Saint James and Sacred Heart parishes is a very painful one for the parishioners from those parishes, and a sad one for us as your neighbors and friends. Unfortunately, the closing of parishes is a sign of the difficult times we are enduring as Church.

We are indebted to Father Crowley and Father Slyva for all they have accomplished along with the cooperation and support of the parish pastoral councils, finance councils, staff, and lay ministries. We wish to make known to your parish families that anyone wishing to make Saint Patrick's their new spiritual home will be warmly welcomed into our parish family, and will be treated with the love and respect of another faith-filled community deeply rooted in our love for Christ and His Church.

It is our prayer that we will emerge from this a stronger and more vibrant community of faith because we belong to Christ, and He is the bond of unity. We ask our Blessed Mother Mary, patroness of the Church, to intercede for us so that we may look forward with hope and confidence in the new opportunities being offered to us as Church, the Body of Christ on earth.

May God's blessings be upon you and may He grant you His grace to strengthen you and console you in this most difficult time for your parish.

Your brother in Christ,
Reverend Brian Kiely,
Pastor
