I want to welcome
the REVEREND MATTHEW BONK, C.Ss.R. to our parish
this weekend. Fr. Bonk is a member of the Redemptorist Fathers
and he will be speaking at all of the Masses this weekend in order
to heighten our awareness of the wonderful work that the Redemptorists
are doing in Thailand where they have many missions. There will
be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all
of the Masses to offer financial assistance to those priests and
religious who have left their homes in order to bring the Gospel
to this distant land. We are certainly blessed to welcome Fr.
Bonk and extend to him some fraternal hospitality as a sign of
our appreciation for the wonderful work that the missionaries
do for God’s holy people. The entire Church needs to be involved
in the work of evangelization and our support of the missions
is one way to ensure that the Gospel is continually proclaimed
throughout the world. I know that you will all be as generous
to this appeal as your means allow and I am certain that God will
reward you for your kindness to those who serve in His name.
It
is with mixed emotions that I share with you the news that His
Eminence, Sean Cardinal O’Malley, has ended DEACON JAMES
M. CRUMP’S assignment at St. Patrick’s Parish and has
granted his request for retirement. I have known of Deacon Crump’s
desire for some time and I am delighted that the Cardinal has
agreed to permit him to retire from active ministry and to become
a Senior Deacon. Deacon Crump has served as a Permanent Deacon
in the Archdiocese of Boston for over thirty years and has been
involved at St. Patrick’s for the majority of that time. Deacon
Crump has generously prepared parents for the celebration of the
Baptism of their children; he has presided over many wakes and
burials of our deceased, and has chaired the Child Abuse Prevention
Team within the parish. His years of diaconal ministry have touched
many lives and have contributed to furthering the mission of the
Church. Deacon Jim has been a wonderful collaborator in our parochial
ministry and we are indebted to him for his many acts of kindness.
I would also like to thank Jim’s wife LEE who
has been so supportive of her husband and patient with the many
demands that his ministry has required. It is with great affection
and love that we now ask God to watch over Deacon Jim and Lee
and fill them with rich blessings and much joy. They certainly
deserve it. The effective date of this action will be September
1, 2007.

for Vocations
O
God Almighty, we thank you for calling each of us into deeper
life through Jesus. We thank you for the love we are called to
bear one another and for the power you give us to love with your
Spirit of love. Teach us to respect the many ways your Spirit
is manifested and the many gifts needed to bring Christ’s life
in us to its fullness. Never let us forget that the greatest among
us is the one who serves with joy and humility, using your gifts
for the common good. We ask this in the name of your son through
the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
