FROM THE PASTOR

I want to welcome the REV. JOSEPH TOWLE, a priest from the MARYKNOLL MISSIONARY SOCIETY, to our parish this weekend. Fr. Towle will speak at all of the Masses on the mission work of Maryknoll and the Church. Maryknoll is the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America and was founded in 1911 by two diocesan priests in order to enable Catholics in America to have representation in the foreign missions of the Church. Fr. Towle and the other members of Maryknoll work in Latin America the Orient, and in Africa as they strive to bring the Gospel of Christ to so many who have yet to hear. There will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses this weekend in order to help provide some material support for these wonderful servants of God. I know that you will be as generous as possible to this special appeal which gives us a unique opportunity to express our support for this fine apostolate as well as our gratitude for the many sacrifices that these wonderful men and women make in order to bring the Gospel into the lives of some of the poorest of the poor. I thank you in advance for your generosity and pray that God will reward you for all that you do for His people.

Because of Fr. Towle's visit to the parish this weekend, the Collection for the HOME MISSIONS will be taken up at all of the Masses on the following weekend.

I want to welcome our new parish custodian, JOSEPH HAMMOND, to our parish staff. Joe will be responsible for the upkeep of the parish facilities over the weekends and for many nights during the week. I am delighted to have such a capable and dedicated person handling these responsibilities. I know that you will all make him feel at home.

Acting on the advice of the PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL as well as the ST. PATRICK'S CEMETERY COMMISSION, I have decided to out-source the work of maintaining our parish cemetery in order to stay in operation. For a number of years, St. Patrick's Parish has had to subsidize the operation of our parish cemetery and we are no longer in a position where we can continue to provide that level of financial support to the cemetery. We have been very fortunate to have the services of RON JOHNSON and KEVIN REARDON and they have attempted to maintain the cemetery under some very difficult financial constraints. However, in order to provide some financial stability and to insure that the cemetery will continue to be maintained in a professional manner, we needed to examine alternative operating methods. After a careful search, we have retained the services of the THOMAS M. DOHERTY COMPANY to provide the necessary care and maintenance of St. Patrick's Cemetery. Mr. Doherty and his crew have maintained the Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellesley for a number of years and have done an outstanding job of providing a level of service that is a source of great comfort as well as pride to those whose loved ones are interred at Woodlawn. It is our hope that they will provide a similar service to St. Patrick's Cemetery and that we will be able to derive great solace from their professionalism and dedication. The effective date of this action is September 1, 2003.
