There
will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION taken up
at all of the Masses this weekend for the annual CATHOLIC
HOME MISSION APPEAL to benefit all of the Catholic parishes
in the United States and the Pacific and Caribbean dependencies.
This appeal strengthens the Church at home by supporting Catholic
communities in need. It assists dioceses that serve the pastoral
needs of Hispanic and other ethnic groups. It enables Catholic
parishes in poor and remote communities to provide Mass, the sacraments,
and religious education for their people. I am confident that
your customary generosity will enable some of these impoverished
faith communities to experience a measure of God’s abundant love
through the knowledge of our compassion and concern. Thank you
in advance for your kindness and financial support.
I
recently made an appeal to you for an increase in your Offertory
contributions and shared with you my concerns with regard to the
finances of our parish. Although we have been able to pay our
bills, it has been a rough summer because of the decline in the
number of people attending Mass and its effect on revenue. I know
that this was due in part to vacations and now that the summer
is almost over, I am optimistic about our ability to meet our
future financial obligations. However, I would ask you
to prayerfully consider making a substantial increase in your
weekly contribution. All of us realize from our personal
experiences that the cost of living continues to rise and the
costs needed in operating our parish continue to rise as well.
We attempt to seriously control parish expenses and there remains
little that we can do to reduce these expenses, short of a drastic
reduction in pastoral services. I would appreciate your generous
financial assistance as we prepare for our parish’s future.
Last
Sunday, I had the wonderful opportunity of having dinner with
our young people who attended the recent Steubenville East meeting
in July. It was a delightful evening of sharing stories and laughs
as we were visibly reminded of our common bond as Catholics. I
am so impressed with these remarkable people and I look forward
to working along with them to bring the Gospel into the lives
of our high school students. I want to thank MR. RYAN
BARBA and MRS. LISA CORREIA for their efforts in coordinating
our youth activities. I am most grateful for all that they have
done to enrich the faith experience of these young people.
