FROM THE PASTOR

I am delighted to share with you that His Excellency, the MOST REVEREND WALTER J. EDYVEAN, S.T.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Boston and Bishop of the Western Region of the Archdiocese, has decided to maintain his offices in Saint Patrick's Parish. The new location of the Office of the Regional Bishop will be in the Joseph Center on Wilson Street. Bishop Edyvean and his staff will occupy most of the first floor of the building while Catholic Charities will move to the Second Floor. The parish will continue to retain access to the property for parochial purposes. It is an honor for our parish to host the Regional Bishop's office, and we look forward to welcoming the Bishop and his staff.

I am happy to announce that Bishop Edyvean has also accepted our invitation to reside at Saint Patrick's Rectory. Father Riley, Father Donohoe, and I have known Bishop Edyvean for a number of years, and we have the highest regard for this dedicated servant of God. Bishop Edyvean spent many years teaching theology at Saint John's Seminary in Brighton, and then was asked by the Holy See to serve in the Congregation for Catholic Education in Rome. Bishop Edyvean remained in Rome for 11 years, and returned to the Archdiocese in September of 2001 when he was ordained to serve as an Auxiliary Bishop of Boston. Bishop Edyvean was the Moderator of the Curia and Vicar General of the Archdiocese until Archbishop Sean asked him to take this new assignment. We are grateful to God for Bishop Edyvean's willingness to come to this region and especially grateful that he will reside at St. Patrick's. I am certain that you will come to know Bishop Edyvean as a gentleman, a scholar, a theologian, and a holy priest. I am equally certain that Bishop Edyvean will feel at home here and will be most appreciative of your gracious hospitality.

It is our understanding that REVEREND STEPHEN G. DONOHOE will soon be back with us. Father Donohoe is expected to complete his military service and then will spend some time with his family. Father Donohoe will also take some time for a retreat before returning to Saint Patrick's in mid-September. We are grateful to God for his safe return and are anxious to welcome him back home to Saint Patrick's.

Upcoming events

Please Register

Families who were involved in the religious education program last year are reminded to send in registration packages including all documents and payment at your earliest convenience. Additional copies of the registration form are available at the rectory.

Families new to the program: in-person registration will take place August 31, Sept. 7 and Sept. 14 after all masses in the Lower Church Hall. Otherwise call the Religious Education office at 508-653-7542 to request a registration form.

Welcome back to our five teens that completed Gospel Road. Throughout the week these teens completed a ropes course to teach them to help and depend on each other as well as move beyond what they think they can accomplish. They spent the rest of the week in service to others; learning that service is not always glamorous but is doing what needs to be done. Congratulations and thank you.

PARENTS

Thank you to all of the families who have pre-registered for religious education classes! If you have not yet done so, please send in your pre-registration and payment.
All families new to the program including new grade 1 students will have the opportunity to register in person in early September.

FAMILY CLUSTERS

A Family Cluster is an alternative to religious education classes where the family is intentional about being the primary source and locus of religious education. Families work together using the same curriculum as in the classroom to facilitate the faith development of all members of the family. If you are currently a member of a Family Cluster or would like to participate in this enriching option please contact the Religious Education Office 508-653-7542

Confirmation students (gr. 10 & 11) looking to fulfill their service hours (25 hours completed before confirmation) please contact the Religious Ed office. The yard sale is looking for various jobs to be filled from manning a table, setting up, clean up, to planning & running activities for younger children. All are welcome to help out in any way they can.

Young Adults, High School and Middle School students! Come kick off the end of summer… Grab a friend and join us on a trip to Six Flags New England Saturday Aug 30. Call Melisa to sign up for group rate of $19.99 per person.

Reminder to all Religious Ed Volunteers:

You must drop by the Religious Education Office (located in the rectory) before classes begin to meet with me and fill out some paper work. Until this is taken care of you will not be assigned to a class.

The Religious Education Office is looking for someone to take responsibility for the video library located in the lower church. This involves an initial organization (ensuring that all video cases contain the corresponding video, sorting videos according to age appropriateness, etc.) then coming by at least 1-2 times per week to put returned videos back and keep track of videos borrowed.

The Natick Service Council, Inc.'s PANTRY shelves are very low, in fact bare in some places.

August is one of the worst months for pantries everywhere. The food from the Letter Carriers Food Drive from May has been distributed. Donations are down because so many folks are on vacation. Schools are closed, Scouts, clubs and organizations that routinely donate, are not in session for the summer. Attendance is low at area churches and synagogues.
The families we work with still need food and depend on the food pantry to supplement their meager food budgets. July is normally a "slow" month client wise, however, 334 individuals went to the pantry this past July, a 43 percent increase from last year.

WILL YOU HELP? Here is a list of items that are on the "most wanted" list: CEREAL OF ALL KINDS, MEALS IN A BOX, i.e., HAMBURGER HELPER, RICE A RONI, TUNA HELPER, POTATOES AU GRATIN, JUICES-CRANBERRY, GRAPE, VARIETIES OF JELLY, CHICKEN NOODLE, CHICKEN VEGETABLE SOUPS, CLAM CHOWDER, PROGRESSO SOUPS, BEEF STEW, CHEF BOYARDEE, WHITE TUNA, SARDINES, CANNED PEAS, BEANS, CARROTS, TOMATOES, CANNED FRUIT, SPAGETTI SAUCES LIKE PREGO, RAGU, COFFEE, TEA, DECAF, SMALL BOXES OF TEA, COOKIES, CRACKERS, RICE.

Our volunteers are at the Pantry Monday mornings from 9:30am to 12noon to receive donations. If you can't make it then, call Sandy or Janet at 508-655-1791 and we will make arrangements for your donations. The pantry is located at 39 E. Central St., our office is at 11 Pond Street. Thank you for caring.
