Prayer for Labor Day

On this weekend, when we rest from our usual labors, loving Father, we pray for all who shoulder the tasks of human labor—in the marketplace, in factories and offices, in the professions, and in family living. We thank you, Lord, for the gift and opportunity of work; may our efforts always be pure of heart, for the good of others and the glory of your name. We lift up to you all who long for just employment and those who work to defend the rights and needs of workers everywhere. May those of us who are now retired always remember that we still make a valuable contribution to our Church and our world by our prayers and deeds of charity. May our working and our resting all give praise to you until the day we share together in eternal rest with all our departed in your Kingdom as you live and reign Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for Students

Dear God,

Although you made Thomas Aquinas, the patron of students, among the greatest and wisest of teachers, even he needed to begin his journey toward you as a student himself. When we are tempted to neglect our education, be it at school, work, or in life, give us the grace to persevere in your lessons to us. When tempted to believe we “know-it-all” about anything, gently guide us toward the virtue of humility. And when tempted to teach others before we are ready, lead us away from the vice of arrogance. Make us more like you every day, and help us always to accept your will and instruction. Amen.

Prayer for Teachers

Heavenly Father,

On this day, we pray for teachers from all walks of life. For those who work in the classroom, may they be models of your compassion and discipline. For those who train people in professions, may others see you in their daily lives and hard work. And we pray for parents, best and wisest of all mentors that their children may learn holiness from their example. Whether their lessons are about math, work or life, give all teachers the grace to show your patience, your virtue, and your joy to those near them. Give all teachers love for your truth, life and Church.
Amen,

Catechists/Instructors

Please consider volunteering as a catechist or aide. We are the beneficiaries of the faithful men and women whose generous catechetical service taught us the key elements of our Catholic faith. Only through the generous service of ordinary men and women can today’s youth learn about their religion. We understand the time challenges so many juggle. Please know that we do everything we can to support our catechists and optimize your time commitment. Bringing (or dragging along) a friend can make it an adventure! Classes meet Sunday mornings (Grades 1-4), Sunday evenings (High School) and Wednesday evenings (Grades 5-8). Please call me if you have any questions.
Thanks for your prayerful consideration,
Father Rafferty

Music Ministry

Greetings! I hope you all had a wonderful and restful summer!
At this time, I would like to take the opportunity to invite St. Patrick’s parishioners to join the Adult Choir. Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings in the Joseph Center and last about an hour. Our first rehearsal will be next Tuesday, September 4th at 7:30p.m.
The Choir participates in the 11:30 Mass on Sundays, Christmas Eve Masses and Holy Week. There are many opportunities for members of the Parish to share their musical talents in the celebration of the Mass.
Music is a very important part of our worship. During this time, the choir enjoys the fellowship of one another and the challenge of expanding their knowledge of sacred repertoire. If you are interested in joining our Music Ministry, please contact Martin Kelly by phone or by E-mail. (617)489-2472 mjksjf@aol.com.
