FROM THE PASTOR

This Monday evening, September 8th, we will be having our MONTHLY EVENING OF PRAYER as part of our on-going parish spiritual renewal. The topic of the evening is "MARY, MOTHER OF THE CHURCH AND MODEL OF DISCIPLESHIP." The Prayer Service will begin at 7:30 PM in the Church and will consist of scriptural readings, prayers, and hymns as we reflect on Mary's example of faithful service to her Divine Son. I hope that all of you will try to be present with us for this time of grace so that we in turn may grow in our own understanding of discipleship. There will also be an opportunity for socializing after the Prayer Service in the Church Hall.

As you know, the MOST REVEREND WALTER J. EDYVEAN, S.T.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Boston and Regional Bishop of the Western Region of the Archdiocese, is now residing at St. Patrick's. The Office of the Regional Bishop is located on the first floor of the Joseph Center on Wilson Street. We are certainly honored to have the Regional Bishop living with us and his presence at St. Patrick's is indicative of his pastoral concern for the people entrusted to his care. Bishop Edyvean has graciously agreed to be the Principal Celebrant of the 11:30 AM Mass on Sunday, September 14th and we will have a brief reception for him in the Hall after Mass at which you will get an opportunity to welcome him to our parish. September 14th is also the 3rd Anniversary of the Bishop's Ordination to the Episcopacy so this gives us another reason for us to celebrate our good fortune. I hope that as many as possible will be able to join us as we welcome this gentle and wise priest to our family.

I want to congratulate JIM AND LOIS MC GILLVARY on the occasion of their 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY this weekend. Jim and Lois are such a blessing to this parish community and we are delighted to be able to share this special moment with them. The constant expression of their mutual love gives witness to the presence of Christ in their marriage and in our world. May God, Who brought them together and Who has sustained them through the years, bring to them the happiness that we have all received through them.

I am delighted to announce that St. Patrick's Parish is about to form a YOUTH BASKETBALL PROGRAM. Any child, from Grade 5 through 12 who would like to be part of the various teams is more than welcome to join. MR. GRAHAM BRIGGS has agreed to form this program and I am most grateful for his willingness to undertake this effort. There will be more details in next week's bulletin.

This Thursday is SEPTEMBER 11TH and our country will observe the second anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. So many people's lives have been affected by these tragedies and I would urge all of us to take some time on Thursday to pause for a moment of prayer in memory of those who lost their lives as a result of these cowardly actions. I would also ask that we remember in prayer our military service, public safety, and emergency service personnel who daily risk their lives for us.
