FROM THE PASTOR

With gratitude to Almighty God, I am delighted to welcome the REVEREND STEPHEN G. DONOHOE back to St. Patrick's Parish. Fr. Donohoe has been providing for the spiritual needs of our U.S. Marines stationed in Iraq. This perilous assignment was made easier for him by the knowledge that the prayers of this community were supporting him. Now that he has safely returned to this parish we continue to hold in our prayers all of the men and women who serve in our armed forces. Let us also remember the people of Iraq and other areas of the world that are engaged in hostilities and pray that a just and lasting peace may be achieved among all people.

This Sunday, we are happy to welcome the men and women who will serve our parish community as catechists in our Religious Education Program. We will commission these wonderful and generous people during the 9:00 AM Mass on Sunday. Parents are the primary teachers of their children in the ways of faith and they agreed to fulfill this role when they presented their child for Baptism. Although parents have a special place in this particular role, the parish catechist assists them by exploring further the mysteries of our Catholic faith within the parish Religious Education program. The future of our society requires the faithful transmission of the Gospel to the younger generations and this ministry of service demands that we share the precious gift of our Catholic faith in order that God may be better loved and served. I am most grateful to our new Director of Religious Education, Miss MELISSA MELYNK, for her professionalism and dedication in coordinating this vital piece of parish life. Melissa is fortunate to be able to rely upon the aid of MANNI LACOUNT as she fulfills this role and I appreciate the many long hours that they give to this parish as they prepare for the classes. The teachers in this program are all volunteers and I can't begin to convey the gratitude that this entire parish has for the countless sacrifices that they make to pass on our Catholic faith to our children. May God reward you for I know that we never could.

Finally, on behalf of the MOST REV. WALTER J. EDYVEAN, I would like to thank the parish community for the warm welcome extended to him last weekend. Bishop Edyvean is very grateful to all those who prepared the liturgy as well as the reception in the Church Hall. The Bishop has commented on numerous occasions that he feels at home here at St. Patrick's and is looking forward to becoming better acquainted with our parish family. As the Regional Bishop of this part of the Archdiocese, Bishop Edyvean will reside in the Rectory and maintain his office at the Joseph Center.

My brothers and sisters in Christ!
As you read this note I will have completed my surgery. I wanted to express to you my deepest, most heart-felt gratitude for your continuing support and prayers. These past many months it has been both humbling and up-lifting to hear my name mentioned each week at Sunday Liturgy in the prayers of the faithful. Hardly a day goes by that I do not receive a card or a note in the mail. The number of hours of Adoration that have been offered on my behalf is staggering. How does one thank you for this love and care? Please know that you are truly a "light for the nations". It has been a great privilege to be a member of such a loving, Christ-like community. I look forward to seeing all of you again. I am confident as I prepare to head into the hospital that I am surrounded by angels and up-lifted by your many prayers. You are indeed, the Body of Christ. I love you and thank with all my heart.
