FROM THE PASTOR
On behalf of the Rev. John E. Sheridan and the entire St. Matthew's Parish community, I want to express our profound gratitude to all of the St. Patrick's Parishioners who made our recent YARD SALE such a success. The large number of volunteers and the enthusiastic crowds enabled our parish to assist Fr. Sheridan's pastoral mission to the people of Dorchester. The success of the Yard Sale enabled us to forward almost $6,000.00 to St. Matthew's, which is the equivalent of one month's offertory in this inner-city parish. We are all most grateful for your compassionate response to this "sister" parish in their moment of need. May God reward you for your kindness.
We are delighted to officially welcome the REVEREND STEPHEN G. DONOHOE back to his home at St. Patrick's this weekend. Fr. Donohoe will be the Principal Celebrant of the 11:30 AM Mass this Sunday as we gather to thank God for his safe return. I know that I speak for all of us as we express our profound admiration to Fr. Donohoe and for his heroic service with our military personnel in Iraq. Fr. Donohoe's dedication to the mission of the Gospel and to providing the spiritual needs of those in harm's way has earned him the respect of all of us. We want to invite all parishioners to join us after Mass for some light refreshments as we offer our congratulations to this man of God for a job well done.
We also wish to offer our prayerful congratulations to our beloved friend and neighbor, the REVEREND MSGR. ROBERT GIGGI, the Pastor of St. Linus' Parish. Msgr. Giggi is observing his 50th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Sacred Priesthood at a special Mass of Thanksgiving this afternoon. Msgr. Giggi is one of the most dedicated and respected priests of the Archdiocese and we acknowledge with gratitude his tremendous pastoral ministry in Natick. In addition to serving the parishioners of St. Linus, Msgr. Giggi has a special affection for the retired and infirm priests at St. Patrick's Manor. Msgr. Giggi has been spotted on many occasions ministering with great tenderness to his brother priests. On this day, we thank God for the tremendous example of priestly service that this gentle shepherd has exercised in the name of Christ and we pray that God will reward him with that same happiness that Msgr. Giggi has brought to all of us. AD MULTOS ANNOS.
The ANNUAL RESPECT FOR LIFE WALK will take place next Sunday, October 5th on the Boston Common. We urge all parishioners to join us as we publicly affirm the right to life of every person, from the moment of their conception until their natural death. In the midst of a culture that celebrates death, all of us need to re-examine our commitment to the sanctity of life as a precious gift from God. As the stewards of this divine gift, we need to proclaim the dignity of every human person and seek ways to promote laws that will protect all life from destruction. St. Patrick's Parish will provide transportation for those who wish to participate. There are sign-up sheets at the doors of the Church this weekend. Let us all pray that God's grace will change the hearts of all people so that we might cherish and protect from harm the lives that God has entrusted to our care.

Reflections & Thoughts from A Committed Adorer
I find much joy in spending time with the Lord, whether it be my assigned one hour of adoration or a short visit of 5-10 minutes. I feel the time is well spent knowing that Jesus is present with me, smiling down on me, and taking great pleasure in knowing that I, His child, cares enough to be with Him. I visualize the angels surrounding me in His Holy presence. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to go, but I push myself because I know He is waiting for me. The rewards are great! There is such a peace and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of this cruel world. I go to pray, sometimes I read, I fall asleep, and sometimes just being silent, so that He can be our God. As Psalm 46 says, "Be still and know that I am God." I feel it is important to do this, to give Him the attention He so richly deserves. This is the least I can do for Him; it is not much of an effort on my part because He did so much for me. I do this because I love Him and because of His love for me. Julie Ceplikas

Thank You
Our heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful people involved in the St. Matthews benefit yard sale. The outpouring of your generosity made it possible to provide Fr. Sheridan, Pastor at St. Mathews, with proceeds of $5,770.00. We want to thank Fr. Kiely and Fr. Riley for their support and encouragement over the past few months.
The success of this event was only possible by the dedication and commitment of so many of you - over 80 people volunteered their services.
Special thanks to those who donated sale items; those who donated their time, labor and transportation in moving items; those who came at 6:00AM on Saturday morning to help set up for the yard sale; those who manned the tables and sold the merchandise; those who planned and coordinated the children's activities; those who baked delicious goodies to sell; hospitality members who managed our food table; our finance wizards who took care of the money; and those who stayed to help us pack up and clean up especially the high school students who will be receiving confirmation this year. All items left over will be donated to St. Matthews.
May God bless you for the stewardship of your time, talent, and treasure.
