FROM THE PASTOR

I am delighted to share with you the news that Archbishop Sean has graciously consented to assign the REVEREND MARK J. RILEY as a Temporary Parochial Vicar at St. Patrick's Parish in order to offer some assistance in the pastoral care of our parishioners. I am so grateful to the Archbishop for this truly wonderful gift and I know that I speak for all of you in expressing a warm WELCOME HOME to Fr. Mark. Fr. Jason, Deacon Crump and I are indeed blessed to have Fr. Mark back with us and we look forward to sharing our pastoral ministry with him. May God Who has given us so many gifts through the priestly ministry of Fr. Mark continue to grant to him the grace of good health, happiness, and peace as he returns to our family at St. Patrick's. AD MULTOS ANNOS.

The PARISH MISSION will take place next week and I want to urge all who are able to set aside this time in order to grow closer to the Lord and to each other. The Mission has as its theme, "ONE LORD, MANY FACES" and is being sponsored by the Seamless Garment and Spiritual Development Commissions. We have invited four dynamic and gifted priests to share with us as we attempt to arrive at a deeper understanding of the need to have a consistent ethic of life as the basis of our discipleship. The first evening, SUNDAY, October 17th we be have invited the REVEREND CHRISTOPHER COYNE, a Professor of Sacred Theology at St. John's Seminary, to begin our mission journey by reflecting on the Life and Dignity of the Human Person as gifts from God and belonging to Him. The second evening, MONDAY, October 18th, the REVEREND PAUL B. O'BRIEN, the Pastor of St. Patrick's Parish in Lawrence, will continue to explore our need to respond to God's call through Family, Community, and active Participation in the world. On TUESDAY, October 19th, the REVEREND KEVIN M. SEPE, the Pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Braintree, will be the homilist as he helps us to understand our need to pursue justice and peace through reconciliation. This evening will also be an occasion for any who might wish to avail themselves of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and we have invited many priests to assist us in offering sacramental absolution after individual confession. Finally, the mission will culminate on WEDNESDAY evening, October 20th, with the celebration of Mass; the Source and Summit of all that we are as God's people. We have invited the REVEREND J. BRYAN HEHIR, the Director of Catholic Charities, to be the homilist and to help us to appreciate our role in caring for God's creation as our response to Christ's directive to "Love one another as I have loved you." We are certainly so fortunate to have these four wonderful priests spend this time with us and to offer their inspired guidance as we strive to follow Christ through a world filled with lights contrary to His own. The Mission will begin each evening at 7:30 PM in the Church and I hope that you will plan to join us. I know that this special moment of grace for our parish family will enable us to live in a closer union to the Lord and help us to bear witness to His loving concern for all His people. I hope that you will also invite your neighbors and friends to join us for all or part of this mission. I know that you will be glad that you did.
