FROM
THE PASTOR
Today
we celebrate WORLD MISSION SUNDAY and the SECOND
COLLECTION that is taken up at all of the Masses will
go to support those engaged in missionary work throughout the
world. By our prayers and financial offerings, we support the
mission priests, religious sisters and brothers, and lay catechists
as they proclaim the Gospel to the poorest of our human family.
Our sacrifices help these dedicated men and women of God share
their love of Jesus and bring hope and Christ’s peace to those
most in need. What is provided by your generosity is as critical
to the missionary work of the Church as the weekly offertory
is to our parish. Over 1,150 dioceses around the world depend
upon this collection to support their pastoral, educational,
and spiritual works. I am certain that you will be as generous
as your means allow in this appeal. May God bless you for your
generous missionary spirit and may He reward you for all that
you do for His people.
I am delighted to welcome the REVEREND MICHAEL HARRINGTON
to our parish community this weekend. Father Harrington
is the Assistant Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese of
Boston and he has graciously agreed to be with us to help promote
vocation awareness within our parish. Each of us is called by
name to participate in God’s divine plan and if we listen and
respond, He will guide us to a life full of wonderful possibilities.
Father Harrington will speak of the need that the Church has
for an increase of priestly vocations. I know that I can speak
for all of my brother priests when I tell you that the Sacred
Priesthood is a wonderful life. It is an awesome privilege to
stand in the person of Christ and to be able to share His mercy
and love in so many different ways. It is my prayer that God
will continue to call more men from this parish to the Priesthood
and that they will have the charity of heart, generosity of
spirit, and the courage to respond “YES LORD.”
As
the Finance Council indicated last month, we are instituting
a MONTHLY MAINTENANCE COLLECTION to help offset
some of the larger expenses (such as heating oil) that we incur
at St. Patrick’s. There will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION
taken up at all of the Masses next weekend for this purpose.
Please be as generous as you can to this urgent need to provide
for our parish.
I have been asked to celebrate
the Daily Mass on TV on Thursday, October 30th. If anyone would
like to attend this Mass at the Catholic Television Studio in
Watertown, please call the Rectory.

In
an effort to make it more convenient for parishioners to financially
support Saint Patrick Parish, we now offer you the ability to
make your offertory contributions electronically. Rather than
placing cash or checks in the collection basket each week, you
now have the option to simply have a predetermined monthly amount
withdrawn from your checking or savings account that will be automatically
deposited into the Parish Offertory. Transactions will be made
on the 15th of each month. If you are interested in signing up
for electronic offertory payments, or if you would like additional
information, please contact Jean Lorrey in the Parish Office at
508-653-1093. Thank you.
Stewardship
“Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs
to God.” - Matthew 22:21
It is good to remember that everything belongs to God. We would
have nothing if God had not given us the skills, talents and opportunities
to accomplish what we accomplish. Therefore, it is important for
us to recognize that we have an obligation to return a portion
of our gifts to God, for all gifts belong to Him and come from
Him.
Perpetual
Adoration Ministry
A sign-up will be held at the rear
of the church after all of the Masses the weekend of October 25
& 26 to add to our current list of adorers. Our goal is to
have two committed adorers per hour. We currently have hourly
slots that need to be filled and we always need substitutes. Thank
you to all that now share in the ministry. If you have any questions
please call Ed or Shirley at 508-653-2941.
"REACHING
FOR CHRIST"
HIGH SCHOOL RETREAT
TO BE HELD NOVEMBER 7-9, 2008!
The Youth Ministry program at St.
Patrick's Parish is proud to announce the next "Reaching
for Christ" (RFC) Retreat this upcoming November. The full
weekend retreat promises to be an absolute blast and all high
school youth (from within and outside the parish) are highly encouraged
to attend.
The weekend is organized and led by high school
youth who have designed the schedule, planned the activities,
decided on the topics to be discussed, and wrote their own talks
to be given during the weekend. You'll walk away from the weekend
with a renewed enthusiasm for your faith, a better understanding
of Catholicism AND some fantastic memories. Guaranteed! It's a
great way to make some new friends, too.
The weekend will include all of the following
and more!
- Youth talks, given by high school youth, describing their own
struggles and describing how God has helped them overcome obstacles,
doubts, and difficulties
- Small group discussions about interesting topics relevant to
today's high school youth, including the difficulty of living
life as a Catholic in today's society
- Fun activities and free time for sports, games, and socialization
- A fun overnight experience, well-balanced meals, and unexpected
surprises
Give it a chance! Invite your friends - all high
school youth are welcome.
Registration
forms are available now. If you need a copy, email Ryan Barba
at rybarba99@yahoo.com
