FROM THE PASTOR
As we begin a new year, I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all of you who enrich this parish by your time, your many talents, and your financial generosity. We are so fortunate to be able to provide pastoral services to many people and your active participation in the various ministries and programs bring tremendous strength to this community of faith.
The focus of our life as Church is always the Eucharist that we celebrate on Sunday for it is at the Altar that we discover anew precisely what Jesus has done for us. He has freed us from the slavery of sin and the fear of death. He comforts us and He encourages us by His example and His words. He teaches us as He walks with us in our sufferings. He fills us with hope as He offers us eternal life. Instead of violating our freedom, He restores it, dignifies it with His own incarnate holiness, and then adds to it with His victory over death on our behalf. He gives us His Holy Spirit, who breathes new life into our hearts and enables us to love one another - even our enemies and persecutors - as He loves us. From His fullness we receive the power to bring glad tidings of peace into a world filled with lights contrary to Christ's message of love. It is my special prayer that our community will grow ever more closer to God and to each other as we re-commit ourselves in this new year to the noble task of bringing the Good News to all that we meet. Let us strive to grow in our appreciation of the sublime Gift of God Himself in the Eucharist that we receive each Sunday in order to be nourished and strengthened for our earthly journey.
I want to welcome again those of our brothers and sisters who now join our parish family. The circumstances that bring us together at this particular time may vary but the common reality is always the universal bond of charity that nothing can break. The privilege that is ours to gather as God's holy people to celebrate in Word and in Sacrament is too precious to waste and we need to remain focused on the present realities rather than past glories, as significant as they indeed have been. The present and eternal reality is this: God loved us enough to send us - through the faith of Mary and support of Joseph - His only Son. He loved us enough to take on our poverty, our indignities and fears, our hopes, joys, sufferings and failures - and to speak to us as one of us. He became man to show men and women how much God loves them. He was born for that purpose. He lived for that purpose. He died and rose again for that purpose. May we, who are privileged to be Catholic, imitate in our lives His example of universal love that we discover in the Eucharist.
