FROM THE PASTOR

There will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses this weekend to benefit the Catholic Missions throughout the world. As we celebrate World Mission Sunday, we are reminded that each one of us is called by God to be missionaries, to bring God's Word and His love into the world in which we live. In a special way, we are invited to offer our prayers and our generous financial support to the priests, religious and lay people in the missions as they bear witness to a world in need of Christ's healing love and peace. The Society for the Propagation of the Faith is responsible for providing financial assistance to the Church in so many parts of the world and it relies upon our generosity and prayers to continue the Lord' mission. I know that you will be as generous as possible to this appeal and I thank you in advance for your concern for those who labor far from home to bring God's love to those in need.

I want to thank all of those who participated in our recent parish mission, "One Lord, Many Faces." I am especially grateful to my brother priests who shared their priestly ministries with us. Their presence among us was a vivid example of how one serves the Lord through the gift of one's time and talent. I am so grateful to the members of the Spiritual Development and Seamless Garment Commissions for coordinating this special moment of grace for the parish. In a particular way, I want to thank Deacon Jim Crump and his wife Lee, Jane McGourty, Anne Reilly, Jean Lorrey, Gail Healey, and the Choir for their unique and valued contributions. We are in your debt for helping to arrange for this wonderful manifestation of what it means to accept our dignity as Catholics and to live in a manner worthy of our call as His sons and daughters.

Every day, people's lives are being changed for the better through our work as Church. Together in Faith, we help make that possible. Over the next few weeks, we will be concluding the 2004 Catholic Appeal and in the name of Archbishop Sean, I want to ask all of you to consider making a special donation to this appeal. With your gift, you will be reaching out to others and helping individuals who need assistance with food, clothing, and shelter. This is an opportunity for you to assure that those who are seeking to learn more about their faith have the means to do so. It is also a way for you to provide people with the essential services that they need from the Catholic community. If you have not already contributed, please take a pledge card home with you and take the time to make a generous donation that can help change another's life.

I want to call your attention to two upcoming and very important events. On Monday evening, November 1st, we will celebrate the FEAST OF ALL SAINTS. As we have done in the past, we will offer a special Mass at 7:30 PM for the Pre-born deceased and for their families. On Tuesday evening, again at 7:30 PM, as we observe the FEAST OF ALL SOULS, we will offer a MASS OF REMEMBRANCE for all those who have died in our parish family, especially those who died this past year. I hope all who are able will join us for these nights as we commend to His tender care our brothers and sisters who have died and pray that He bring them safely home to Heaven.
