FROM THE PASTOR

The SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION that is being taken up at all of the Masses this weekend is for the WOMEN AND MEN RELIGIOUS who have dedicated their lives in service to Christ's Church. This annual collection is authorized by our nation's bishops in order to help defray the escalating health and retirement costs of these wonderful servants of Christ. Many of us owe our present level of success in part to these men and women religious who labored in our Catholic educational systems and who gave us the skills that we needed to make our way in the world. This special collection allows us the opportunity to express to them our gratitude by our financial generosity in their hour of need. I know that you will be as generous as you can be in this collection and I am certain that God will reward you for your compassionate response to this special and urgent Appeal.

I am very grateful to the members of the PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL for sharing with all of us the fiscal state of the parish. If you did not receive a copy of the financial report, there are some available at the doors of the Church. Currently, about 15% of our parishioners are contributing almost 75% of the operating budget. As we all are fortunate to share in the blessings of this great parish, we all need to share in its financial support. I am so deeply grateful to the many parishioners who have increased their contributions and I am asking that all of us prayerfully consider increasing our weekly offering in order to insure that a disproportionate burden is not placed upon the shoulders of our brothers and sisters. Through our careful stewardship of your contributions, we have been able to reduce the parish operating expenses by $ 12,000. per month. However, I feel obliged to bring to your attention that we need a minimum of $15,000.00 in the weekly Offertory if we are to operate the parish without incurring a debt or experiencing a reduction in pastoral services.

I want to invite all parishioners to join us for a MASS OF REMEMBRANCE for our deceased on Monday evening, November 10th at 7:30 PM in the Church. I have already invited the family members of those who were buried from St. Patrick's during the past year but I want to extend an invitation to all parishioners. I am especially mindful of those who may have experienced the death of a loved one beyond the borders of our parish and I hope that they will join us as well as we commend these dear ones to the Lord. Death is always tough for those of us who remain and this Mass affords us the opportunity to console each other with our faith in the Risen Christ and bring comfort to those in need.

Lastly, I want to bring to your attention that the new GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS OF THE ROMAN MISSAL have been approved and are to be implemented by the First Sunday of Advent. In the next few weeks, we will be providing information as to how these new norms will impact us at St. Patrick's. These instructions are a great blessing to the Church as we strive to be faithful to Christ's gift of Himself in the Eucharist by our celebration of the Liturgy. The Eucharist is the Source and Summit of the Christian life and our privileged participation in this divine moment requires reverence, joy, and, most of all, charity.

Celebrating October "The Month for Life"

SEAMLESS GARMENT REFLECTION

"As Catholics, we are not free to abandon unborn children because they are seen as unwanted or inconvenient; to turn our backs on immigrants because they lack the proper documents; to create then destroy human lives in a quest for medical advances or profit; to turn away from poor women and children because they lack economic or political power, or to ignore sick people because they have no insurance. Nor can we neglect international responsibilities in an aftermath of war because resources are scarce. Catholic teaching requires us to speak for the voiceless and to act in accord with universal moral values." "Faithful Citizenship: A Catholic Call to Political Responsibility"
