FROM THE PASTOR
The SECOND COLLECTION that is being taken up at all of the Masses this weekend is for the RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS. This annual appeal is directed to religious institutes of women and men in order to assist the over 30,000 women religious and 5,000 men who are past the age of 70 years. Though they may have withdrawn from compensated, full time ministry, religious continue to visit the sick, tutor children, and volunteer in many parishes. Religious institutes must provide for their own retirement costs and your donation helps alleviate the spiraling cost of health care. Your compassionate and generous response to this appeal is also a way in which we can express our gratitude to these wonderful women and men who have labored so hard and sacrificed so much to bring the Gospel to all of us. I am certain that God will reward you for your kindness to these dedicated servants of God.
I wish to offer our prayerful congratulations to the young men and women of our parish family who received the Sacrament of Confirmation this past weekend. His Excellency, the Most Reverend Walter J. Edyvean administered this sacrament to our young adults and we are so proud of these visible witnesses of God's powerful presence at work in our midst. I wish to congratulate and thank as well the parents and sponsors of these candidates for their example of faith that has inspired these men and women to persevere in their commitment to our Catholic Church. I look forward to great things from these fine young people as they assume a more active role in our parish family. I am most grateful to MELISA MELNYK, BARBARA WALSH, PATRICIA FAIR, and FATHER RAFFERTY for all that they did to prepare these candidates. May God bless you for your constant dedication and generous service to our Religious Education program.
I would like to invite all parishioners to join us on next Monday evening, November 14th, for a MASS OF REMEMBRANCE at 7:30 PM in the Church. We have extended a special invitation to the families of those who were buried from St. Patrick's Church during the past year and hope that they will join us as we pray for those who have preceded us in death. Our prayerful presence is a source of great consolation for those who mourn the loss of a loved one. I hope that all who are able will join us around the Altar as we commend our deceased loved ones to the tender mercy of God.
Finally, I would like to welcome the newly selected members of our PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL, whose names are listed elsewhere in the bulletin. I am confident that our prayerful collaboration will provide the necessary direction for our parish future.
