FROM THE PASTOR
This Monday, November 13th, we are celebrating our annual MASS OF REMEMBRANCE at 7:30 PM in the Church. We have invited the families of those who were buried from St. Patrick's Church during the past year to join us as we pray for those who have preceded us in death. The death of a loved one always leaves a void in our hearts and our celebration of Christ's victory over death reminds us of the hope to which we have all been called. Our prayerful presence can be the source of great consolation to those who mourn the loss of a loved one. I hope that all who are able will join us around the Altar as we commend our deceased loved ones to the tender mercy of the Lord. There will be an opportunity to express condolences to the bereaved families as we gather in the Church Hall for some refreshments following the Mass.
I am most grateful to the many people who have increased their weekly Offering as a result of the recent financial presentation. It is encouraging to note that we received a small surplus over our budgeted amount in last week's collection. I am hoping that this slight increase is not a one time event and that all of us realize the critical importance of increasing our weekly contributions in order to keep St. Patrick's Parish on a solid financial plane. I met with PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL this past week for our monthly review of our operations and we remain deeply concerned about our operating deficit. We have attempted to reduce any unnecessary costs of maintaining our parish but any further reductions would severely jeopardize the pastoral services of the parish and would be keenly felt in every area of parochial life.
The fact of the matter is that the Offertory at Mass should be an expression of our gratitude to God for all that He has done for us. Our use of the Offertory for budgetary purposes can be a little misleading because our weekly offerings should far exceed what we need to operate the parish. Your weekly Offering is your way of giving back to the Lord some of what He has given to you. With the large number of persons attending Mass here at St. Patrick's every week, we should have offering revenues that allow us to pay for the parish's regular expenses (such as heat, electricity, salaries, etc.), to engage in charitable works as well as to plan for future maintenance and savings. All of this depends upon each person making a conscious and prayerful decision regarding their sense of gratitude to the Lord. May the Holy Spirit guide and direct you as you determine the extent of your appreciation for the wonderful things God has done for you.

Stewardship
"For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood." (Mark 12:44)
Both widows in today's readings gave all they had to the work of the Lord, one using all her remaining food to feed Elijah and the other offering her two copper coins to the temple treasury. Faithful stewards give all that is asked and trust the Lord to be faithful to His promises.
Rest in Peace
Let us pray for those who have died, especially
Margaret L. Vespa
May they and all the faithful departed rest in peace.
Prayer for Vocations
O Jesus, good shepherd, bless our parishes with numerous priests, deacons, men and women religious, consecrated laity and missionaries, according to the needs of the entire world that you love and wish to save. We especially entrust our community to you; grant us the spirit of the first Christians, so that we may be a cenacle of prayer, in loving acceptance of the Holy Spirit. Assist our pastors and all who live a consecrated life. Guide the steps of those who have responded generously to your call and are preparing to receive holy orders or to profess the evangelical counsels. Look with love on so many well-disposed young people and call them to follow you. Help them to understand that in you alone can they attain complete fulfillment. To this end we call on the powerful intercession of Mary, mother and model of all vocations. We beseech you to sustain our faith with the certainty that God will grant what you have commanded us to ask. Amen. Pope John Paul II
Religious Education
As many are aware our parish's St. Vincent de Paul Society helps ensure that less fortunate families have all they need to enjoy a festive Thanksgiving dinner. In past years as many as six young men and women from our Religious Education Program have assisted the St. Vincent de Paul Society with the preparation and distribution of food baskets on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The Religious Education Office has been contacted by the St. Vincent de Paul conference to see if there are any young people willing to help them on Tuesday, November 21. If any 8th Grade or High School students are willing to volunteer and their parents to consent to time off from school, please call the Religious Education at (508) 907-6220.
