FROM THE PASTOR

We are happy to welcome the members of the YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF BOSTON to our parish this weekend. The Young Adult ministry is of tremendous value to the local Church as well as to our parish. Often, it can be this age group that feels most alone in the Church family because they tend to be unmarried and have completed their education. Their ability to interact with their peers can be difficult because there are limited avenues for that social interaction to take place. We are delighted to host a CONCERT OF HEALING with JOHN POLCE this Sunday afternoon at 2:30 PM in the Church that will be followed by the celebration of MASS at 5:30 PM. I want to invite all parishioners to join us for the concert and/or Mass as we offer our prayerful support and encouragement to these young adults who enrich our lives by their presence.

Next Sunday, November 23rd, we will have a special MASS OF WELCOME FOR NEW PARISHIONERS. We have been blessed with addition of almost 260 new parishioners and we have invited them to join us for the 11:30 AM MASS and a brief reception in the Church Hall. I hope that as many of you who are able will make an effort to be part of this day as we extend our hands in friendship to these new and most welcome parishioners.

I also want to congratulate the young men and women who received the SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION on this past Saturday. The Most Reverend Walter J. Edyvean, the Regional Bishop for this part of the Archdiocese, graciously celebrated this magnificent moment during a con-celebrated Mass. I want to offer my prayerful thanks to all who participated in helping these candidates prepare for this occasion. I am especially grateful to MELISA MELNYK and to the Catechists in our parish Religious Education program for their many sacrifices and generous service as they helped to impart a deeper understanding of the rich gift of our Catholic faith. We look forward to many great blessings in our parish as these fine young men and women now assume greater roles of responsibility and service to the community. May the Holy Spirit give them the graces that they need to help renew our world in the image of our Divine Savior.

The Eucharist that we celebrate is the Source and Summit of our Catholic Faith. This Prayer of Christ is the most important event for Catholics because it defines us and enables us to be "Christ in the world." I am inserting into the bulletin the first part of a three part series on the Liturgy. As I mentioned in a previous column, the Archbishop has decreed that the new General Instructions to the Roman Missal (GIRM) be implemented in the Archdiocese on the First Sunday of Advent (November 30,2003). I am happy to say that there are no major changes that need to be made here at St. Patrick's to bring us into conformity with the universal Church but there are some minor adjustments that will be required. We will be speaking about these in the next few weeks as we try to deepen our appreciation of the Mass. Hopefully, the bulletin inserts will help explain in more detail the rationale behind these new Instructions and assist us in our prayerful celebration of the Eucharist.

Calling all Prayer Partners

We invite all parishioners to take part in the faith life of our children by becoming prayer partners for one of our 83 second graders as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Penance) in January and the Sacrament of First Communion in May. A prayer partner is given the name of a child and commits to pray for that child and their family throughout the preparation time. You have the opportunity to meet the child before they receive their Sacraments. Please contact the Office of Religious Education to participate in this rewarding ministry. SIGN UP sheets located in the back of the Church.

Not sure what to with all those great books your children have outgrown? We are looking for donations to start a library of religious children books. You can drop them off at the Rectory. Any questions, call Sally DeGeorge (508)655-0198. We'll also accept suggestions for good books to purchase--help your church in purchasing some of the books .

As we prepare our homes and our kitchens for Thanksgiving, all religious education students are asked to bring in canned fruits and vegetables to add to the Thanksgiving baskets prepared for member s of the community by the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Please ensure all cans are in good shape and are not expired. The last day for donations will be Sunday November 23. Thank You!

Reflecting a Consistent Ethic of Life
Seamless Garment Reflection

"The term Pro-Life was coined back in 1973 to define what people opposed to abortion stood for. But, over the past 30 years, it has evolved to mean just anti-abortion. These three decades have shown us how comprehensive the term "pro-life" can be. Roe v. Wade is not just a bad decision; it is a poison which seeps into the soil of our culture and gives rise to many dangerous weeds….All life issues are interrelated. The linkages among issues-like abortion, contraception, euthanasia, war, capital punishment, poverty, health care, etc.-give rise to the Consistent Ethic of Life."
