FROM THE PASTOR
The SECOND COLLECTION that is being taken up at all of the Masses this weekend is for the CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT. This annual appeal is the Church's response to Americans struggling with poverty as they strive to create a stronger future for themselves, their families, and their communities. Your generosity to this special collection will help low-income people as they work together to solve community problems, increase educational opportunities, and to establish jobs. I am certain that you will be as generous as your means allow so that together we might be able to find permanent solutions to the problem of poverty in our midst.
As we reflect upon how blessed we are both individually and as a parish, it should be obvious that we need to render thanks to God for all that He has done for us. Our nation's founders came to this land and raised a hymn of Thanksgiving to God for the rich harvest that they had received from His hand. This Thursday, our country will observe THANKSGIVING DAY and I want to invite all of you to join us as we gather to thank God in the best way possible: the celebration of the Prayer of Jesus Christ that is the Mass. We will celebrate a Special Mass of Thanksgiving on Wednesday evening, November 23rd at 7:30 PM and on Thursday morning, November 24th at 9:00 AM in the Main Church. There will be a Special Collection taken up to aid the Victims of Hurricane Katrina as they attempt to rebuild their lives after that disaster. Let us pray that our love for God and our appreciation for His goodness may be seen in our pursuit of peace and justice and in our generous response to those most in need.
I want to bring to your attention another pressing need for your generosity. The ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL of the Archdiocese desperately needs your help. We are so fortunate to have the financial resources to be able to go to movies, buy lottery tickets, have cable tv, go to the beauty parlor or the health club, and to do many other things that are enjoyable but fleeting. You and I are now being asked by the Archbishop to help him fulfill his pastoral ministry of service to this local Church of Boston by giving as much as we can in this appeal. We often hear about the pain of cutbacks in the Church but to be blunt, we can't expect to harvest twenty acres if we plant only one. "Bear this in mind: meager sowing means meager reaping; the more you sow, the more you reap. Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not because he has to; for God loves a cheerful giver."( 2 Cor.9, 6-7). The sharing of our resources leads to life; the hoarding of them leads to death. Just as God has been generous with us, so we must be generous in sharing with others. Please prayerfully consider making an appropriate financial gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal so that the Church in Boston may bear fruit in her mission to serve all of God's people.
Just a reminder that Friday, December 2nd, Archbishop Sean will celebrate a Special Mass at 9:00 PM as we observe the 10th Anniversary of Perpetual Adoration. All are welcome to join us for this awesome moment of grace
