FROM THE PASTOR
The SECOND COLLECTION that is being taken up at all of the Masses on this weekend is for the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL. The success of the Annual Appeal is critical to the many pastoral, spiritual, and educational ministries that comprise the Church of Boston. Your generosity allows the Archbishop to aid so many of our brothers and sisters who are in need and who look to the Archdiocese for assistance. As members of the One Body, the Church, we need to be sensitive to those among us who struggle to have some of those services that we are fortunate to already have and in some cases take for granted. I am urging you to truly open your hearts and your wallets to this Appeal so that we can demonstrate what it means to have Faith in Action.
I want to invite all parishioners to join us this Friday evening, December 2nd as we welcome Archbishop O'Malley to our parish community. Archbishop Sean will celebrate a Special Mass at 9:00 PM as we observe the 10th Anniversary of Perpetual Adoration in our parish and the 33rd Anniversary of the All-Night Adoration in the Archdiocese. All are welcome to join us for this awesome moment of grace as we gather to thank God for the countless blessings that we have received through our spending time in His Presence. There will be refreshments served in the hall after Mass and the main Church will remain open through the night so that we may spend some quiet time with the Most Blessed Sacrament.
As we begin the season of ADVENT this Sunday, we are invited to remember Christ's first coming to us in history and also to prepare for His Second Coming at the end of time. Advent is primarily a period of devout and joyful expectation. It is hard to believe that Christmas is right around the corner and we recognize that December 25th will be here before we realize it. In some ways, that is true about the Second Coming of Christ as well: while we might not know the exact time of His coming, we do know that He will come again. I hope that this season of Advent will be an occasion for all of us to meditate on the wonderful gift of Christ's peace so that we might be better able to live each day more fully for the Lord.
With Advent, our thoughts turn to the Holy Land and that part of the world that was privileged to welcome the Prince of Peace but has rarely experienced the enduring effects of His Birth. We have invited Mr. Rami Qumsieh to visit our parish next weekend to help inform us about the situation of Christians in the Holy Land. He will also display and offer olivewood hand-crafted religious articles for sale. The olivewood carvings and religious items are truly exquisite and I know that they will make wonderful Christmas gifts. The sales of these articles generate steady employment to Christian families in the Bethlehem area and fund the only Christian television station in the Holy Land. Mr. Qumsieh is also an excellent exponent of the needs of the Palestinian Christian Arab people who are often overlooked when we speak of the challenges and problems of the Holy Land and the political relations between Israel and Palestine. I hope that you will be responsive and generous to the plight of our brothers and sisters in faith.
