FROM
THE PASTOR
I
am delighted to share with you the news that one of our parishioners
presently studying at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton will be
ordained to the Diaconate on February 2, 2008. His Eminence, Sean
Cardinal O’Malley will ordain MARK D. BARR, along
with his classmates, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston.
Mark has been preparing for this moment for many years and has
been supported by so many of his fellow parishioners in his desire
to serve the Lord as a priest. The ordination of these men is
a great gift to this local Church and I am certain that Mark will
exercise this particular ministry with compassion, generosity,
and conviction. I would ask that you keep Mark and his classmates
in your prayers as they approach this awesome moment on their
journey to the Sacred Priesthood. Let us also pray that God will
raise up even more men from this parish who will generously respond
to His invitation to serve as priests so that the Eucharist may
continue to flourish.
I
am also happy to announce that His Eminence has appointed MS.
MAUREEN O’BRIEN to serve as a member of the Archdiocesan
Pastoral Council. The APC is designed to be a forum for discussion
between the Archbishop of Boston and Council members concerning
the pastoral issues of the day and to propose practical conclusions
about them. In appointing Maureen O’Brien to this position, Cardinal
O’Malley is giving public recognition to one of the most dedicated
and faithful parishioners of St. Patrick’s. Maureen has served
as a member of the Parish Pastoral Council and many of you know
her as that gracious hostess at Sunday morning coffees. She is
also an intelligent, hard-working, and committed individual who
is always willing to offer her help for the good of the Church.
She is one of my closest advisors and is a remarkable example
of lay leadership in the Church. Maureen will represent the Vicariate
III of the West Region and will serve in this new position for
four years.
Speaking
of lay involvement, we are in need of LECTORS
for the Sunday Eucharist. The privilege of proclaiming the Word
of God during the Liturgy is one of the best ways a person has
of making a return to God for His goodness to them. We are seeking
men and women of any age to participate in this ministry and we
will gladly offer the necessary training. Please prayerfully consider
stepping forward to offer your assistance in this area in order
that we might enhance the celebration of the Eucharist. Please
call the Parish Office to volunteer your service and to register
for the training.

love today.
Electronic Offertory
In
an effort to make it more convenient for parishioners to financially
support Saint Patrick Parish, we now offer you the ability to
make your offertory contributions electronically. Rather than
placing cash or checks in the collection basket each week, you
now have the option to simply have a predetermined monthly amount
withdrawn from your checking or savings account that will be automatically
deposited into the Parish Offertory. Transactions will be made
on the 15th of each month. If you are interested in signing up
for electronic offertory payments, or if you would like additional
information, please contact Jean Lorrey in the Parish Office at
508-653-1093. Thank you.
Society
of St. Vincent de Paul
With cold weather expenses the Society
of St. Vincent de Paul gets an increase in requests for financial
assistance from the needy. Your continued support is much appreciated
as we help our fellow neighbors through difficult times. Offering
baskets are located at the doors of the church. Thank you and
God bless!
Religious Education
Request
Since the fall a number of families, individuals and religious
organizations have donated a variety of DVDs to our Religious
Education Program. We are grateful to have these teaching tools
which include catechetical talks, stories about saints and biblical
figures, and some classic Christian films. Unfortunately classes
are often challenged to take advantage of the DVDs since we have
only one DVD player. An additional 2 or 3 would be ideal. If anyone
would be interested in donating a TV/DVD player to St. Patrick’s
Religious Education Program we would be most appreciative and
can assure you that it will get plenty of use.
Thanks for your consideration.

Bicentennial
Prayer
All
loving and gracious God
We thank you for the Gift of your Son, Jesus Christ.
For two hundred years we have journeyed together as members of
his Church in the Archdiocese of Boston. We have tried to live
the Gospel message in service to one another. Continue to walk
with us as we seek to be receptive to your grace in Word and Sacrament.
Send us your Spirit to enlighten our minds, strengthen our wills
and open our hearts. By our witness may others know you. Through
the intercession of Mary Immaculate, may the Church in Boston
journey together in Christ with courage, joy and peace
Amen.
