FROM THE PASTOR

I am delighted to be able to share with you the news that one of our parishioners studying at St. John's Seminary in Brighton will be ordained to the Diaconate on January 28, 2006. Archbishop Sean O'Malley will ordain WILLIAM N. VENTURA, along with four other men, to the Diaconate at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. The ordination of these men is a great gift to this local Church of Boston and I am certain that Bill will exercise this ministry with compassion, generosity, and conviction. I would ask that you keep Bill and his classmates in your prayers as they approach this awesome moment on their journey to the Sacred Priesthood. Let us also pray that God will raise up even more men from this parish who will generously respond to His invitation to serve as priests.

The new Parish Pastoral Council will be meeting this Tuesday evening for a workshop that will be conducted by the REVEREND ROBERT G. MC MILLAN, S.J. in order to deepen their appreciation of their important role. Father McMillan is the Director of Strategic Planning for the Archdiocese of Boston and has graciously consented to assist us in order to function properly in accord with the Archdiocesan guidelines for Pastoral Councils. The Pastoral Council has often been referred to as the "Pastor's Dream Team" because they assist in helping to discern needs and set goals for future pastoral initiatives. Father McMillan's expertise has proven to be invaluable in helping all of us to understand how we can best achieve that desired end. I am grateful to Father McMillan for his willingness to share his tremendous gifts with us as we work together to build up the Body of Christ in this parish community.

I am happy to announce a new initiative that is being undertaken by the Parish Evangelization Committee. The St. Andrew Committee is sponsoring a program entitled "COMING HOME" which is part of our on-going outreach to Catholics who have been away from the practice of their faith and who are looking to return. Some people have thought about returning but may have found it difficult to take that first step or there have been questions that have prevented them from a deeper relationship with the Church family. We are offering a six week program designed to discuss the various issues, to answer the questions, and to provide information to those who seek to return to the Church. These sessions will begin on Monday evening, January 23rd at 7:30 PM in the lower Church hall. I would ask that all of us pray that the Holy Spirit will inspire many to overcome whatever might hinder them from embracing that relationship of love that Christ wishes for His people.

Stewardship

"Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, "What are you looking for?'" (John 1:38)

What are you looking for? That is a question Jesus asks each of us. It has been said there is a God shaped hole in every soul that only God can fill. Instead of spending time with God, though, we fill our days working for things that do not satisfy us but that society says we need to impress one another.

Adoration Ministry

The Adoration Ministry Meeting for all hourly coordinators will be held in the Joseph Center on Tuesday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. All adorers and interested parishioners are also invited. Please call Anne Reilly at 508-655-8516 if you have questions.
