FROM THE PASTOR

It is with mixed emotions that I share with you that Archbishop O'Malley has assigned the REVEREND MARK J. RILEY as the Parochial Vicar at St. Paul's Church in Wellesley. I am delighted that Fr. Riley's health has improved enough that he can assume full-time ministry but I would be less than honest if I did not admit that we will miss his smiling face here at St. Patrick's. The good news is that he will be right down the street!! The effective date of this appointment is December 12, 2005.

I would like to welcome MR. RAMI QUMSIEH to our parish this weekend. Mr. Qumsieh is an excellent exponent of the needs of the Palestinian Christian Arab people who are often overlooked when we speak of the challenges and problems of the Holy Land and the political relations between Israel and Palestine. He will also display and offer olivewood hand-crafted religious articles for sale. The olivewood carvings and religious items are truly exquisite and I know that they will make wonderful Christmas gifts. The sales of these articles generate steady employment to Christian families in the Bethlehem area and fund the only Christian television station in the Holy Land. These will be on display in the Church Hall after all of the Masses. I hope that you will be responsive and generous to the plight of our brothers and sisters in faith.

There is still time to join us for the PARISH CHRISTMAS DINNER that will be held on next Saturday, December 10th at 5:00 PM. This is a great opportunity for all of us to come together and to share the Christmas spirit with each other before we get caught up in the rush of the holiday. We have invited the religious education classes to decorate a table and also to prepare certain food dishes so that this will be a more inclusive type of event. If you would like to attend, please sign up in the vestibule after the Masses this weekend. The dinner will be held in the school and we look forward to spending a great evening together.

Archbishop Sean O'Malley has sent a letter to all Catholics in the Archdiocese expressing his pastoral concern for persons with a homosexual orientation. It is important for all of us to remember that each individual is a unique and unrepeatable gift from God, to be cherished and respected from the moment of conception until natural death. All people are welcome in the community of the Church and we need to reach out to everybody in order to help foster a relationship with Christ. The Catholic Church, although opposed to any alteration of the definition of marriage, is never against people. The Church rejects any kind of discrimination against persons because of our conviction regarding the sanctity and dignity of the human person. We are called by Christ to love one another and to support each other as we lead lives of holiness. The Archbishop reminds all of us that "We must strive to eradicate prejudices against people with a homosexual orientation. At the same time the Church must minister to all people by challenging them to obey God's commands, the roadmap for a meaningful human life that allows us to draw near to God and to one another. " A copy of the Archbishop's letter is included as an insert to this week's bulletin.

The Lord cares for us so gently and lovingly. He makes sure that we have all that we need. How do we show our gratitude to Him for all that He does?

Join us to celebrate the Advent season as we joyfully Christmas Carol through our community. During the hustle and bustle of the season, this is a great opportunity for you to pause and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. We will be visiting the local nursing homes to spread some Christmas cheer - serenading the residents with our heartfelt (and hopefully in tune) Christmas caroling. We will also be caroling door-to-door through some of the neighborhoods in our parish and on the common. For more information please contact Ali and Rich Salvaggio (508-655-3517).

Safety for All

In an effort to make sure our building is a secure place for all during the celebration of Mass, parents please accompany your children when they need to use the rest room. In this way we will all be assured that our youngsters are safe at all times.
