FROM THE PASTOR

The SECOND COLLECTION that is being taken up at all of the Masses this weekend is for the RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS. This annual appeal is directed to religious institutes of women and men in order to assist the over 30,000 women religious and 5,000 men who are past the age of 70 years. Though they may have withdrawn from compensated, full time ministry, religious women and men continue to visit the sick, tutor children, and volunteer in many parishes. Religious institutes must provide for their own retirement costs and your donation helps alleviate the spiraling costs of health care. Your compassionate and generous response to this appeal is also a way in which we can express our gratitude to these wonderful men and women who have labored so hard and sacrificed so much to bring the Gospel to all of us. I am certain that God will reward you for your kindness to these dedicated servants of God.

This Sunday afternoon we will be joining together for CHRISTMAS CAROLS ON THE COMMON. We will gather on the Natick Common at 2:00 PM to sing carols and to help us to prepare to celebrate the Birth of Christ. We have invited the other Christian churches in the area to join us as we try to put Christ back into our Christmas preparations. I hope that all parishioners and families will attend this wonderful and prayerful event. There will be refreshments served afterwards.

We will be holding our ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE on this Monday evening, December 11 at 7:30 PM in the Church. There will be an opportunity for individual confession and we have invited additional priests to be with us to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance. I want to encourage all to participate in this wonderful opportunity to receive the real gift of Christmas: Christ's forgiveness and peace.

There will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses next weekend for CHRISTMAS FLOWERS. Many people have expressed a desire to have their loved ones remembered in prayers during the Christmas season and we have decided to decorate the Church in memory of our deceased loved ones. If you wish to make a financial contribution towards this, please write the name of the deceased loved one on the outside of the envelopes that are in the pews and place your offering in next week's second collection. In the event that finances are somewhat problematic for you, please feel free to simply write the name of the person on the outside of the envelope and place it in the basket. We are happy to remember everyone in our prayers at the Altar during this holy season.

Finally, I would ask that you remember in your prayers our two new Auxiliary Bishops of Boston. The MOST REVEREND JOHN DOOHER and MOST REVEREND ROBERT HENNESSEY will be ordained to the Episcopacy on Tuesday, December 12th at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. We congratulate these two fine priests on their new positions and pray that God will bless their ministry with great success. AD MULTOS ANNOS.
