FROM THE PASTOR
This Sunday we celebrate the THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT and Christmas is fast approaching. So much remains to be done and there is very little time to do it. I know that we all have last minute shopping to do, decorations to be put up, and a host of other things. These next days leading to Christmas can become stressful if we fail to keep in the forefront of our minds the Reason for this activity. The desire to provide material gifts to express our love for each other can sometimes overshadow the Birth of Christ that brings us together. I want to encourage all of you to try to find some quiet time in which you might pray for the grace to appreciate the full implications of this Birth and find that true Peace that comes through our union with Jesus.
There will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses next weekend for CHRISTMAS FLOWERS. Many people have expressed a desire to have their loved ones remembered in prayers during the Christmas season and we have decided to decorate the Church in memory of all of our deceased loved ones. If you wish to make a financial contribution towards this, please write the name of the deceased loved one on the outside of the envelopes that are in the pews and place your offering in next week's second collection. In the event that finances are somewhat problematic for you, please feel free to write the name of anyone that you would like remembered on the outside of the envelope and simply place it in the basket. We are happy to remember everyone in our prayers at the Altar during this holy season.
I wish to express my prayerful best wishes and congratulations to the young men and women of our parish who received the Sacrament of Confirmation this past Saturday. We were most fortunate to have the Most Reverend Walter J. Edyvean as the celebrant on this happy occasion and I am most grateful to him for arranging his schedule to accommodate us. I am grateful as well to Melisa Melnyk, our Director of Religious Education, Trisha Fair, Barbara Walsh, and Lee Crump for their efforts in preparing these young adults for this moment. I am looking forward to having the newly confirmed assume a more active role in parish life and know that we will be enriched by their many talents.
I also would like to extend our congratulations to His Excellency, Bishop Edyvean as he observes the 40th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Sacred Priesthood on December 16th. May the Lord, Who began such good work in him, continue to bless his ministry with great success and happiness. AD MULTOS ANNOS !
