FROM THE PASTOR

There will be a SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses this weekend for CHRISTMAS FLOWERS. As we have done in the past, we will decorate our sanctuary in memory of our deceased loved ones and we invite you to make a contribution in their name.

Elsewhere in the bulletin is the schedule for CHRISTMAS MASSES but I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and holy Christmas. I want to assure you that you and your families will be remembered at the Altar as I am privileged to celebrate the Sacred Mysteries of our faith. I shall pray that God will bless you during this holy season with the Peace of His Divine Son and that He will return to your lives the joy that we have received through you.

As many of you have read in the newspapers, the priests of Boston met with our Archbishop Sean in a special meeting this past week. The Archbishop shared with us the details of the financial settlement that has been reached with the victims of clergy sexual abuse. I want to underscore that no parochial monies or funds received through the Promise for Tomorrow Capitol Campaign and the Archbishop's Appeal will be used for this settlement agreement. In an attempt to arrive at this agreement, the Archbishop instructed his staff to reach an immediate agreement with the victim's attorneys and then pursue any reimbursement from our insurance companies at a later date. The financing will come through various loans that have been secured through local banks, using archdiocesan properties as collateral. Also, the Archbishop has agreed to sell the Archbishop's Residence and some land on the campus of St. John's Seminary in Brighton to repay the loans.

The Archbishop also shared that the reconfiguration of parishes that had begun some years ago needed to be re-activated. The primary reasons for this reconfiguration are the lack of people participating in the sacramental life of the Church, especially at Sunday Mass, the state of existing parish buildings, the lack of priests needed to staff parishes, and other demographic shifts. We realize that parish closings will be difficult but the present moment calls for all of us to examine what is best for the mission of the Church. I hope that, as this process unfolds, we will all join in prayer that we might discern collectively what is God's will for His Church.

Religious Education

Prayer Partners

We are still looking for more parishioners to share in the journey of preparation with our 2nd grade students as they move toward the reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. A Prayer Partner is an individual or a family who commits themselves to praying for a child in 2nd grade that the Lord will be with them and grow in them as they prepare to receive the Sacrament. Prayer partners will have the opportunity to meet the child that they have been praying for before the sacrament date. If this ministry is of interest to you or your family there is a sign up sheet in the back of the church or else please call the Office of Religious Education to be assigned to a child.
"Even when we cannot do anything, we can always pray"

Thank you

Dear Children,

I want to thank you so much for the lovely card and the great bookmark. An angel must have told you that I do a lot of reading. When I use the bookmark, I'll think of all of you and how kind you were.

Thank you,

Mrs. T.

MINISTRY NOTICES

Adoration

A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS GIFT

Inside the entrance to the Adoration Chapel is a bulletin board with an "ADORATION SUBSTITUTE NEEDED' list. If you are unable to commit to a regular hour, because of your schedule, why not consider filling in for a regular adorer who is unable to do his/her hour. If you have someone on your Christmas list that has everything and you have no idea what to give, why not offer the hour for this person and at the same time you would be helping out a regular adorer.

POINSETTIA PLANTS

For those parishioners who will be bringing poinsettia plants in memory of their loved ones, those plants should be brought on December 24 between 8:00-10:00am to the Upstairs Church
Please use gold foil around the base so that all the plants will be uniform on the altar. Thank you for your generosity!

Office Closed

The Parish Office will be closed from Noon on Tuesday, December 24, until Monday, December 29 for the Christmas holiday.
