FROM THE PASTOR
There will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses this weekend to benefit the Church in Latin America. This annual collection allows us the opportunity to assist our brothers and sisters in these countries by offering our financial support to over 425 important pastoral programs. The Church in Latin America faces tremendous challenges because of economic circumstances and so any assistance you might offer would be greatly appreciated.
We are beginning our new
Adult Faith Formation program this weekend and I want to encourage all adults to participate in this exciting program. This program, entitled “I believe/We believe” is part of the Echoes of Faith Program designed to enrich our understanding of our Catholic faith. The program will be held each Sunday at 10:15 Am-11:15 at Our Lady’s Hall in the school. It is my hope that this new initiative will help us grow closer to the Lord and to each other as we contemplate the wonderful mysteries of our precious Catholic faith
The Church is observing a week in which we are encouraged to pray for Christian unity. In his general audience, Pope John Paul stated that "these are days of reflection and prayer, fittingly reminding Christians that the re-establishment of full unity among them, according to Jesus' will, involves all the baptized, both pastors and faithful." "This year," he went on, "the theme faces us with a truth basic to all ecumenical commitment: that Christ is the foundation of the Church. The Second Vatican Council strongly recommended prayer for unity as the soul of the entire ecumenical movement...But prayer must be accompanied by purification of mind, feelings and memory. Thus it becomes an expression of that 'interior conversion' without which there is no ecumenism. In the end, unity is a gift of God, a gift to be tirelessly implored with humility and truth." After highlighting how the longing for unity is spreading, the Holy Father pointed out that "the Lord has recently allowed his disciples to form impo rtant contacts of dialogue and collaboration. The pain of separation makes itself felt ever more intensely, in the face of the challenges of a world that awaits clear and unanimous evangelical witness from all believers in Christ."
Finally, I want to offer my prayerful congratulations to our young people who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time this past Saturday. I am most grateful to all who helped prepare them for this awesome moment in which they were able to experience Christ’s forgiveness and peace.
