FROM THE PASTOR
There will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses this weekend for our Holy Father's ministry as our universal Pastor. This collection, known as Peter's Pence, supports Pope John Paul II as he carries out the spiritual and charitable works of his office. Your generosity allows the Pope to reach out to those who suffer as a result of war, oppression, and natural disasters. During the recent tsunami in Southeast Asia, the Catholic Church was one of the first agencies on site to offer assistance with funds from the Pope that came from this collection. By participating in this special appeal, we join the Holy Father in proclaiming the love of Christ throughout the world. Please give generously so that we can bring the love of Christ to those in the greatest need.
I want to extend a special invitation to all married couples to join us for our MONTHLY EVENING OF PRAYER on Monday, February 14th at 7:30 PM in the Church. We will celebrate Mass and offer our prayers for married persons that God will strengthen them in love for one another as He loves His Bride, the Church. I also want to encourage all to join us as we pray for those who have been called to married life. There will be refreshments served in the Church Hall after the Mass.
I want to offer a very special welcome to the three members of our parish RCIA Program who will be joining Archbishop O'Malley for the Rite of Election at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. Mary Bryant, Henry Bryant, and Luke Stevens have expressed a desire to enter the Catholic Church and we thank God for this wonderful action in their lives. We offer our prayerful support to them as they enter the final stage of their preparation to be received into the Church at Easter.
Elsewhere in this week's bulletin, there is an insert concerning the BOSTON CATHOLIC MEN'S CONFERENCE that will be held on Saturday, March 19th. This Men's Conference will help lead the Church in Boston toward a deeper renewal in serving Christ and we hope that men of all ages will rise up to the challenge for the mission of the Church. I have asked Mike DelVecchio and Abe Schickel to be the Parish Liaisons for this event.
As some of you have already read in the media, the Montrose School has signed a Purchase and Sale Agreement in order to relocate and expand to a new location. I want to congratulate the school administration for this wonderful development. I have established a Task Force to investigate the various options that might be available to our parish as we move forward. The members of the Task Force are ARTHUR FAIR, ANNE O'KEEFE, CHRISTOPHER WICKLES, WILLIAM WILSON, and ROBERT MARSHALL. I am very grateful to these parishioners for their willingness to undertake this assignment. It is my hope that the Task Force will offer their preliminary recommendations to the Pastoral and Finance Councils in early spring. Following that, we will have meetings with the entire parish community in order to collectively discern what will be best for the long term goals of our parish.
