FROM THE PASTOR
This Monday, March 13th we will have our MONTHLY EVENING OF PRAYER as part of our on going parish spiritual renewal. This month we will offer a MASS OF THANKSGIVING as we celebrate the announcement of Archbishop Sean's appointment to the College of Cardinals. We are mindful of how God has blessed us with the ministry of our Archbishop and we rejoice in his new appointment. This is certainly a great moment for the Church of Boston as our shepherd is honored by the Holy Father and it is also recognition of the tremendous bond of affection that exists between the Bishop of Rome and this important local Church. The Archdiocese of Boston has a rich tradition of faithful service to the universal Church and in conferring this honor on Archbishop Sean, the Holy Father demonstrates his appreciation of this service that the Church of Boston has rendered. Please join us for the Mass in the Church on Monday evening at 7:30 PM. There will be refreshments served in the downstairs hall at the conclusion of Mass.
In order to assist the faithful to participate in this season of strong grace, the Church sets forth certain penitential practices to be observed. The principal practices are the observance of Ash Wednesday and Good Friday as days of fast and abstinence, and the observance of the Fridays of Lent as days of abstinence. This year, March 17, the FEAST OF SAINT PATRICK, the Apostle of Ireland and Patron of the Archdiocese of Boston, falls on the second Friday of Lent. In light of the time-honored celebration of Saint Patrick on this feast day by various parishes and groups within the Archdiocese of Boston, the Archbishop has granted a dispensation from the observance of Friday, March 17, 2006, as a day of abstinence from meat. Archbishop Sean encourages the faithful for whom the dispensation applies to choose another weekday of the Second Week of Lent as a day of abstinence from meat, in substitution for the observance on Friday, March 17. The Archbishop also invites all of us to join him for a Special Mass at Noon in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston.
Next Sunday, March 19th , we will inaugurate our observance of the 150th ANNIVERSARY OF ST. PATRICK'S PARISH. We will begin our celebration around the Altar with a Mass at 11:30 AM, followed by a "SILVER TEA" in the Church Hall. We have so much to be grateful for throughout the history of the parish and we gather to thank God for His immense blessings. We commend to His tender care all of our deceased relatives, friends, and benefactors who labored so hard in order for us to enjoy our present parish and we pray that God will reward them for their countless sacrifices on our behalf. There will be many activities scheduled throughout this important year and I hope that we will all participate as fully as possible. This is an important milestone on our journey of faith and we recognize our indebtedness to the Lord Whose generosity is without limit. With grateful hearts, we raise our prayers to Him and pray that we may always express our gratitude by living lives of faithful service in His holy Catholic Church.

"I know how devoted you are to God, since you did not withhold from me your own beloved son." (Genesis 22:12)
Abraham was so devoted to God that he was willing to sacrifice his only son. How does our own devotion compare? Do we withhold time, talent and treasure from the God who sacrificed His only Son for us?

The Stations of the Cross will be prayed every Wednesday during Lent at 6:45pm in the Upper Church. Please join us for this beautiful devotion.

Prayer For Vocations
O God Almighty, we thank you for calling each of us into deeper life through Jesus. We thank you for the love we are called to bear one another and for the power you give us to love with your Spirit of love. Teach us to respect the many ways your Spirit is manifested and the many gifts needed to bring Christ's life in us to its fullness. Never let us forget that the greatest among us is the one who serves with joy and humility, using your gifts for the common good. We ask this in the name of your son through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
