FROM THE PASTOR

I want to invite all parishioners to join us this week for our PARISH LENTEN MISSION that will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evening this week. This special opportunity of grace is being co-sponsored by the Spiritual Development Committee and the Adoration ministry. The theme of these three nights is "Come to Me" and we will focus our attention on the gift of the Eucharist to our lives, especially during this Year of the Eucharist. We have invited the REV. STEPHEN S. DONOHOE, our former Parochial Vicar and presently a member of the faculty of St. John's Seminary, to be the homilist for Monday evening, using the theme, "Rest with Me". The first evening will begin with a Prayer Service in the Church at 7:30 PM and will conclude with Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. The REV. VINCENT E. DAILY, a Spiritual Director at St. John's Seminary will be the homilist for the second night and theme for that evening is "Receive My Forgiveness." This evening will also have an opportunity for people to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The third and final night, we will conclude with the celebration of Mass which is the Source and Summit of our lives as Catholics. The theme for this evening is "Sharing My Love." I hope that you will join us for these moments of grace. At the conclusion of the retreat, we will gather to celebrate the patronal feast of St. Patrick with a small reception in the downstairs hall.

I want to call your attention to the pending legislative action over human cloning and embryonic research. There is a major push in the Massachusetts State Legislature to enact legislation endorsing cloning and the destruction of human embryos for scientific purposes. Please call the State House switchboard (617-722-2000) to reach the offices of Gov. Romney and our state senator and representatives. We need to urge them to oppose this destructive research that is both unethical and unnecessary. I would urge you to read the statement of the Massachusetts Catholic Bishops to further explain the rationale behind our concern. This statement is included as an insert in this week's bulletin or can be viewed at www.macathconf.org.

Last weekend, the Parish Pastoral Council, the Parish Finance Council, the Heads of Parish ministries joined with the Parish Staff for a Day of Prayer conducted by the Rev. Robert J. McMillan, S. J., Director of Strategic Planning for the Archdiocese. I am most grateful to all who participated in this wonderful and productive gathering. After a morning of prayer, conversations were held to discuss some of the more immediate pastoral concerns facing the parish. I look forward to more of these collaborative gatherings in the future.

STEWARDSHIP

When Jesus heard about the illness of His friend, Lazarus, He responded, "This illness is not to end in death; rather it is for God's glory, that through it the Son of God may be glorified." Every aspect of our lives-our gifts as well as our sufferings-can, if surrendered to Christ, lead to blessings for ourselves and others.

Rest in Peace

Let us pray for those who have died, especially James Pucillo May they and all the faithful departed rest in peace.
