FROM THE PASTOR

This Thursday, May 1st, is the FEAST OF THE ASCENSION, and it is a Holy Day of Obligation. All Catholics are obliged to participate in the celebration of Mass as we commemorate the Lord’s entrance to Heaven. The Masses at Saint Patrick’s will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 30th, at 7:30 PM and on Thursday, May 1st, at 6:30 and 8:00 AM and 4:00 and 7:30 PM.

I want to invite all parishioners to consider becoming a member of the EUCHARISTIC ADORATION MINISTRY. In order to maintain the wonderful blessing of having our Eucharistic Chapel open 24 hours a day, we must have people who are willing to commit to a specific hour. The Most Blessed Sacrament cannot be left unattended at any moment, and so we rely upon you who might be able to donate an hour of your time in prayer before the Lord. Please consider making this gift so that the True Gift of Christ present in the Eucharist may be available to all.

As Catholics we are committed to providing opportunities for others to grow in their faith and to live their lives rooted in the Word of Christ contained in His Gospel and transmitted through His Church. This is the mission of all the baptized and it is the central work that we do here within the Archdiocese of Boston. In order to provide the means to meet the many challenges of today, we rely upon the success of the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL. This appeal raises funds to support the umbrella of services that makes it possible for us to carry out Christ’s work in our community. From spiritual formation, to education, to basic needs, the programs funded by the Catholic Appeal are critical to the well-being of our Archdiocese and the fulfillment of our collective mission. I pray that you will be inspired by the Holy Spirit to make a generous financial commitment to this local Church as we embark on this significant response to God’s call to love one another in word and in deed. Pledge packets are available in the pews, or by contacting the Parish Office. You may also make an online donation by visiting the Catholic Appeal website at www.bostoncatholicappeal.org.

Within our own parish family, we attempt to respond to some visible needs as they arise. This weekend, we are hosting a BAKE SALE in the Church Hall after all of the Masses with the proceeds going to benefit CAMP ARROWHEAD, a local charity for the disabled and less fortunate among us. I know that you will respond as generously as you have always done.

Prayer for Vocations

Most Holy Virgin, certain of your intercession, we pray that the mysteries of the Risen Christ and of the Holy Spirit may enlighten many to become willing and generous servants of the church. We pray for our youth to whom the Lord addresses a special invitation of closer fellowship. May they refuse to be carried away by the things of this world, but open their hearts instead, to the friendly voice that calls them. May they feel capable of making a life-long commitment to Christ and to his church for the salvation of mankind. May they trust that divine grace will endow them with the power to make a total offering of themselves as they feel the attraction of priestly, religious and missionary life. We pray for the Christian families, that they may provide a favorable atmosphere for their youngsters and help them make the right choices. We beseech you that all priests and religious be an example to our youth by their availability and humble readiness to accept the gifts of the Holy Spirit. May they be able to extend to all the fruits of love and peace. Amen. Pope John Paul II
