FROM THE PASTOR

The SECOND COLLECTION that is being taken up at all of the Masses this weekend is for the benefit of our SEMINARIES. The proceeds from this collection are used to support the formation and the education of our future priests, especially those studying at Saint John's Seminary in Brighton and at Blessed John XXIII Seminary in Weston. The need for a well educated and spiritually grounded clergy is obvious as we prepare our future priests for service in the Church in Boston. Your generous support of this collection allows us to use our limited precious resources for what is certainly one of the most critical areas of Catholic life. I am sure that you will be as generous as possible in this annual collection as we make a positive contribution towards our future as Church.

As the Church celebrates the FEAST OF PENTECOST, we are reminded of the vocation of all of us to bear witness to the truth of the Gospel. Jesus commissioned His Apostles to be instruments of peace and reconciliation as He established His Church in that Upper Room in Jerusalem. The Center of our Catholic faith is the Eucharist in which we proclaim that Jesus Christ is really and truly present, and we use every opportunity to re-invigorate ourselves through prolonged contact with our Blessed Lord in the Eucharist. One of the greatest gifts at St. Patrick's is the ability to come into the Lord's presence 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year. This great blessing is possible through the kindness and generosity of our brothers and sisters who devote themselves to faithfully adoring Jesus in the ADORATION MINISTRY. We are still in need of people who would be willing to commit to one hour a week to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. If you would be willing to help preserve this wonderful source of grace by volunteering an hour of your time, please call the Rectory during the week and we will put you in touch with the coordinator.

Once again, I want to call your attention to the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL that is currently underway in the Archdiocese of Boston. All the parishes of the Archdiocese have been asked to contribute to this Appeal, which is responsible for funding the various pastoral, educational, and spiritual; programs that take place within the Archdiocese. Our financial support of this Appeal has never been more critical than it is at this moment. Our compassionate concern for those less fortunate than ourselves is demonstrated most effectively by our generous contributions to this Appeal and many programs are presently in jeopardy because of a lack of funds. Please accept our prayerful gratitude for your response to this urgent appeal and our hope that God will reward you for all that you do for His people.

Stewardship

"There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone." (1 Corinthians 12:4-6)

By giving us all different gifts, God made sure that the Church would have the combination of talent and treasure that was needed for us to do God's work on earth. However, what happens if one person does not bring his or her special contribution to God's altar? Everyone suffers.

Attention: All Volunteers

IT IS NOT TOO LATE: If you have not done so, please bring your CORI renewal form (which was mailed to you) to the rectory as soon as possible. We must supply CORI renewals annually per Archdiocesan policy. Thank you for your continued help with the many activities at St. Patrick Parish!

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration

This weekend people will be invited to sign up to become Perpetual Eucharistic Adorers. St. Patrick Parish is very blessed to have 24-hour Eucharistic Adoration going on for over 10 years. Adorers who have signed on for this beautiful commitment stress what a joy, blessing and privilege it is to have this one-hour a week with Jesus.

"Could you not sit one hour with me?" "Do not be afraid."

Call Anne Reilly 508-655-8516 if you have questions or wish to do an hour.

Prayer for Graduates

Heavenly Father,
You watched your own child grow
And pass each stage
On his way to adulthood.
When he accepted baptism,
You praised him, saying you were well pleased.
When he accepted his trials,
You comforted and raised him up.
Grant that those who finish this step
In their journey through life
Will have the wisdom,
Courage and grace of your Son.
And help me to show every day
How proud and well-pleased I am
Of my own beloved graduates.
