FROM THE PASTOR

This weekend we observe FATHER'S DAY and this provides us the opportunity to acknowledge the debt of gratitude that we owe to our fathers, living and deceased. The many sacrifices that fathers have made for their children often go unnoticed or unappreciated until much later in life when we reflect upon our lives. This day we thank God for those who have enriched our lives as fathers and we ask His continued blessings upon them as they try to be the best of teachers to their children. We also commend to God's tender care those fathers who have gone before us in faith. May God reward them by granting them a place at the table in His heavenly Kingdom. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY.

I would like to give a brief update regarding the status of the various parish properties. As you may recall, I convened a special PROPERTY TASK FORCE to investigate the possible uses of our properties on Lincoln Street and to make a recommendation as to their future use or sale. Shortly after the start of their work, we were notified that Montrose School intended to vacate the school in the Fall of 2006. I asked the Task Force members to expand their mandate in order to look at all of the parish properties and to explore some options with regard to the future pastoral needs of this parish. The membership of this Task Force is outstanding and their professional approach is both conscientious and deliberate. At the moment, they are looking at the physical conditions of the properties in an attempt to analyze the costs of maintenance and possible repair. After this is concluded, the plan is to thoroughly investigate the possible options and to determine the benefits and challenges of each proposal. Once this phase is concluded, then the members will bring their preliminary findings to the Parish Pastoral and Parish Finance Councils for their input. It is my desire to have the members present these recommendations to the entire parish community so that we can together discern the best course of action for our future. I would like to express my profound gratitude to ANNE O'KEEFE, JEAN LORREY, ARTIE FAIR, BILL WILSON, BOB MARSHALL and CHRIS WICKLES for their tremendous commitment of their time and talent in accepting this responsibility. I am very confident that we have some of the best minds working on this very important matter and I am certain that they will provide us with wonderful insights that will help us plan for our future.

I want to thank all of those who worked to help us welcome Father Rafferty to our parish. The warmth of your reception added greatly to the warmth of last weekend and I know that Father Rafferty already feels at home here at St. Patrick's. You make me so proud to be a part of this awesome community of faith.

STEWARDSHIP

"Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed," Jesus tells us in the Gospel today, "and nothing is hidden that will not become known." May our stewardship of God's gifts be such that we would not be ashamed if it were seen in the clear light of day.

What Makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so,

He called it ... Dad

On Being a Young Person

Around you you hear all kinds of words. But only Christ speaks words that stand the test of time and remain for all eternity. The time of life that you are living calls for decisive choices on your part: decisions about the direction of your studies, about work, about your role in society and in the Church. It is important to realize that among the many questions surfacing in your minds, the decisive ones are not about "what". The basic question is "who"; "who" am I to go to, "who" am I to follow, "to whom" should I entrust my life?"

John Paul II
