FROM THE PASTOR
There will be a SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses this weekend to benefit the CHURCH IN EASTERN AND CENTRAL EUROPE. The Church in that part of the world has experienced great growth with the collapse of the communist regimes but with growth comes many needs that require immediate attention. Our financial support in this second collection will enable the Church to provide the necessary pastoral services that are required in order to further evangelize and promote the Gospel. Your contribution will go directly to the Churches in order to help spread the Gospel over large territories, help develop pastoral programs for families and parishes, provide for the education of the faithful, the training and formation of priests and religious, and offer the various services to the homeless, the elderly, children, and families in need. On behalf of the hope-filled individuals and communities of Central and Eastern Europe, I thank you in advance for your generous concern and compassionate response.
Our St. Patrick's VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL begins this week and I want to express my appreciation to NANCY MAGUIRE and her team of volunteers for their hard work in preparing for this wonderful event. This year's theme is "FIESTA" and Nancy and her staff have transformed the school into a remarkable place. The generosity of all those involved in this endeavor is a reminder of what can be accomplished when good people step forward and offer their extraordinary gifts for the benefit of others. As we express our gratitude to those involved, let us continue to keep them in our prayers that this week may be a time of great grace and enjoyment to all who participate. May all experience a greater awareness of God's wonderful love for each of His children and emerge from this week with a renewed enthusiasm to follow Him to our true paradise of Heaven.
Finally, I want to express my prayerful congratulations and profound appreciation to the REVEREND JOSEPH A.PAQUETE, S.J. as he approaches the 60th ANNIVERSARY of his entrance into the Society of Jesus. This truly significant milestone allows me the opportunity to publicly thank this devoted son of St. Ignatius for the invaluable pastoral ministry that "Fr. Tony" provides for all of us at St. Patrick's. Fr. Tony's dedication to faithfully celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation each week is an inspiring example of living and doing all "For the Greater Glory of God." It is my prayer that this man of God, who has brought so much joy to the Jesuits and to all of us, will be filled with joy on this special day. May God bless him and bring him continued good health and much happiness. AD MULTOS ANNOS.

Stewardship
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want." (Psalm 23:1)
Modern advertising has taught us to want so many things. Yet a faithful steward learns to recognize the difference between what he wants and what he needs. If we wait to give back to God until we have all we want we will never give back to God. There is always something else we want.
Rest in Peace
Let us pray for those who have died, especially
Mary M. Robertson
May they and all the faithful departed rest in peace.

Religious Education News
We hope all Religious Education students, families, catechists and volunteers are enjoying the summer. Our Religious Education Program will resume in the fall. We'll conduct a Catechist Training Session on Sunday, September 17 and classes will commence the following Sunday, September 24. Mailings appropriate to students' age and grade contain various scheduling information.
During these lazy days of summer I respectfully ask you to consider offering some assistance to our parish's effort to share the faith. Dedicated catechists, aides, hall monitors and other volunteers are what make the program work. If you have any questions about what is involved or would like to talk to someone who has been involved in the program please give me a call.
Thanks for your prayerful consideration of this request,
Father Rafferty
