FROM THE PASTOR
There will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses this weekend for the CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS. The funds from this Appeal will help extend and strengthen the presence of the Church in the United States through the support of basic pastoral services in areas that are struggling to provide these necessities on their own. This Appeal allows Catholics to help support to local communities where Catholics are few, the Church is fragile, and pastors are struggling to keep mission parishes open. Your generous support of this collection will be greatly appreciated, especially by those who are most in need.
Speaking of those most in need, last year's devastating HURRICANE KATRINA decimated the Gulf Coast of the United States and left behind tremendous devastation and destruction. The outpouring of concern and generous financial support to those in that area was most impressive and desperately needed. Your compassion allowed relief organizations to provide for the immediate and basic needs of the Hurricane survivors. However, now that a year has passed, there is still much that needs to be done in order to help people recover. Many Churches, schools, and buildings that are essential to Catholic life were destroyed and have yet to be rebuilt, especially in the areas of New Orleans and Biloxi in Mississippi. Insurance payments will not cover the millions of dollars that are needed to reconstruct Churches and parish schools. As a result, for example, the Archdiocese of New Orleans reports that it has sustained an estimated $ 52 million dollars of uninsured flood damage and another $70 million for buildings whose openings have been delayed because of the lack of available funds. Obviously, the need is colossal.
The Bishops of the United States are asking all Catholics to participate in a SPECIAL COLLECTION to assist in the recovery efforts of this unimaginable tragedy. We will have a special collection taken up at all Masses next weekend as we participate in the national appeal to "HELP REBUILD CHURCH, REBUILD HOPE." All proceeds from this collection will be sent directly to the Bishops of New Orleans and Biloxi to be used by those faith communities who are attempting to reclaim their very existence. As Cardinal O'Malley has stated from his own personal experience during his tenure in the Virgin Islands, "as families return from exile and to those who remained in the area, these buildings are a symbol that our Church continues to be a harbor of safety, a true home, and a sign of God's enduring love and care." Your generous financial support and your prayers are desperately needed and certainly will be received with great appreciation. Thank you.

Stewardship
"Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise…" (Ephesians 5:15)
Stewardship is a wise and good way to live. It is wisely recognizing that all we have comes from God. It is thanking God every day for all His many blessings. It is recognizing that God has blessed us for a reason and He wants us to be partners with Him in His work here on earth
Rest in Peace
Let us pray for those who have died, especially
Rose M. Rosenburgh
May they and all the faithful departed rest in peace.
Prayer for Vocations
Lord Jesus Christ, you are the savior of the world. Please manifest in your church the Spirit whom you also abundantly bestowed on your apostles. Call many to priesthood and religious life. May zeal for your glory and for the salvation of the world inflame those you have chosen. May they be saints in your likeness. May our Holy Spirit strengthen them. May they be priests and religious according to your own heart. Amen.
CATHOLICS CAN ALWAYS COME HOME
We are very pleased to announce that St. Patrick Parish will again present the Coming Home to Catholicism Program beginning in the Fall. This program is for those Catholics who have been away from the Church and wish to return. Some have been hurt and are seeking healing. Some need a listening ear. Some did not understand the gift of their faith and let it go. Some sent their children to Religious Education, but did not attend Mass themselves. Some people do not know why, they got busy, they fell away....they may be just waiting to have someone invite them to take another look!
The Coming Home Program involves no commitment. It is informal and informative. It affords an opportunity to ask questions. The program is facilitated by a lay team along with the parish priests.
If you know of anyone who may be interested in this program, please prayerfully consider inviting them to attend the fall session. Additional details will be posted in the bulletin as they become available.
Thank you.
