FROM THE PASTOR

There will be a SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION taken up at all of the Masses this weekend as we participate in the national appeal to "HELP REBUILD CHURCH, REBUILD HOPE." The Bishops of the United States are asking all Catholics to participate in a special appeal to assist in the recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This unimaginable tragedy destroyed many churches, schools, and other buildings and these need to be rebuilt. All proceeds from this collection will be sent directly to the Bishops of New Orleans and Biloxi to be used by those faith communities who are attempting to reclaim their very existence. As Cardinal O'Malley has stated from his own personal experience during his tenure in the Virgin Islands, "as families return from exile and to those who remained in the area, these buildings are a symbol that our Church continues to be a harbor of safety, a true home, and a sign of God's enduring love and care." Your generous financial support and your prayers are desperately needed and certainly will be received with great appreciation. Thank you.

As we observe from a distance some of the challenges and difficulties that others face each day, we should be inclined to offer prayers of thanksgiving to the Lord for the blessings that we have received in our lives. God has blessed us with an abundance of gifts and sustains us daily with His grace. Periodically, we need to be reminded of how fortunate we really are. Gratitude is the hallmark of a Disciple and as we contemplate God's goodness to us, we need to ask and answer the question: "how can I make a return to the Lord for His goodness to me?" One of the best ways is to deepen our union with the Lord through our participation in Mass, which is the Most Perfect of All Prayers because it is the Prayer of Jesus Christ Himself. We are so fortunate to be able to celebrate Mass here at St. Patrick's every day at 8:00 AM and I would like to encourage you to make participation in daily Mass a part of your daily activities. The Eucharist is the sustenance that a Catholic needs in order to remain rooted in Christ and fortified to confront life's many challenges. I would urge all who are able to arrange their schedules in order to make DAILY MASS a priority.

I would like to ask you to keep in your prayers the seminarians form our parish who are discerning a vocation to the Priesthood. Mr. David Gunter is presently at Blessed John XXIII National Seminary, Mr. Daniel D'Innocenzo is at St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia, and Mr. Eric Bennett is at St. John's Seminary in Brighton. All of these men are studying for the Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Boston and we pray that God, Who has begun this great work in them, will bring it to completion.

Stewardship

"The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life." (John 6:63)

It has been said that the tragedy of our time is that we do not know what we want until we are told by advertisers. Yet the things advertisers tell us we need usually do not fulfill us. Only Jesus gives us true life. He alone is worth our sacrifice.

Adoration Ministry

St. Patrick Parish is blessed to have a perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel for more than 10 years. In order to have a constant vigil of prayer before The Blessed Sacrament we must make sure each hour is covered by a designated adorer. We are in urgent need of permanent adorers. You will come to cherish this one hour a week with Jesus. "Could you not sit one hour with me?" Call Anne Reilly at 508-655-8516 to sign up.

Prayer for Vocations

O Lord of the harvest, your word finds a home in our hearts, calls us to community and invites us to generous service to the human family. Bless with courage and spirit your priestly people, called to full participation in the one body of Christ. May many choose to respond in public service to your call offered in Jesus' name. Amen.

RCIA

An "Inquiry Night" for RCIA will be held on Thursday, September 21st at 7:30 p.m. in the lower church hall for anyone who is interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. RCIA is a process by which adults who have not been baptized or who have been baptized into another Christian faith or who were baptized Catholic but not received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist are welcomed into the Catholic Church.

CATHOLICS CAN ALWAYS COME HOME

We are very pleased to announce that St. Patrick Parish will again present the Coming Home to Catholicism Program beginning in the Fall. This program is for those Catholics who have been away from the Church and wish to return. Some have been hurt and are seeking healing. Some need a listening ear. Some did not understand the gift of their faith and let it go. Some sent their children to Religious Education, but did not attend Mass themselves. Some people do not know why, they got busy, they fell away....they may be just waiting to have someone invite them to take another look!

The Coming Home Program involves no commitment. It is informal and informative. It affords an opportunity to ask questions. The program is facilitated by a lay team along with the parish priests.

If you know of anyone who may be interested in this program, please prayerfully consider inviting them to attend the fall session. Additional details will be posted in the bulletin as they become available.

Thank you.
