FROM THE PASTOR
People are, at times, surprised when I tell them I am never ashamed to ask for money. The reason why is because it was one of the primary activities of the Apostles in the early Church. The Acts of the Apostles describe Peter and Paul as often taking up collections for the poor and for the Mother Church in Jerusalem. As a matter of fact, Jesus spoke more of money than any other subject in the Gospel. Giving of our resources is a sign of faith. The Church invites us to share our time, our talents and our treasure. It is often easier to give our time and our talents than it is our treasure. For many of us, money symbolizes security. Yet, it is the tradition of the Church that we should trust in God's provision. The Lord is so generous to us, and we need in response to be generous to Him and to others. I have asked the PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL to speak at all of the Masses this weekend so that you may know how we have used your generous gifts to carry on the mission of the Church within our parish. I am most grateful to the way in which you have responded to God's call to share your resources and I appreciate that for some, your weekly offering is a sacrifice of great love. Our parish has enjoyed a legacy of many faith-filled works that have extended far beyond our borders. As we look at the present fiscal realities, we realize that we need to increase our weekly offertory in order to continue the pastoral and charitable works that have defined our parish. The Finance Council has been of tremendous assistance in helping us to exercise prudent fiscal restraint. But I need each of you to be equally committed and equally responsive to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit in your lives. The Church is each one of us committed to sharing all that we possess with others to proclaim in word, in action, and in worship our conviction that Jesus is Lord. I am asking all of us to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus, to build a community of faith and to reach out to those in need by increasing our weekly contribution and please know that I am and will always be grateful for your generosity.
Speaking of time and talent, the PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL. will be sponsoring STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY next weekend after all of the Masses. I want to urge you to come and see the many volunteer opportunities that exist within our parish family. I encourage each of you to become more actively involved by sharing your time and talent in one of these areas. While it is certainly true that no one is indispensable, each of us is a unique and unrepeatable gift from God that realizes its full beauty in serving others. Let us not hide the Light of our lives under a bushel basket but let us offer the Lord our lives so that His Light may shine through us.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Thank you
To the parents and volunteers who have helped in many ways to prepare for the beginning of the religious education year. A great deal of "behind the scenes" work has gone on by many of our parishioners. God Bless you!
Welcome
A warm welcome back to our returning students and welcome to the many new families starting this year.
Program Update
As you may be aware during the summer we explored hiring an administrative support position to help with the logistics of enrollment, assignment and similar duties in our Religious Education Program. Due to a late surge in registration (we went from 300-plus to 520 in the last week!) we are re-considering such a position. If you or someone you know is interested in a part-time position with flexible hours please advise Melisa Melnyk at (508) 907-6220.
Our most immediate priority however, is recruiting teachers for two or three middle school classes. It is a wonderful affirmation of the strength of our parish's Religious Education Program and of parents' willingness to raise their children in the faith that we need these extra volunteers. We sincerely ask you to consider helping out. We are willing to be as flexible as possible helping you accommodate other commitments.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
Registration
Any students not yet registered please contact the Religious Education Office at 508-907-6220 or by email at religiouseducation@attglobal.net.
